De Martino

Our winery was founded in 1934 by Pietro De Martino, who arrived in Chile in search of a place to satisfy his passion for winemaking. Looking for the perfect site, he found Isla de Maipo in the Maipo Valley, just 50 km (31 mi) from Santiago between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The village earned its name because it had been surrounded by a number of branches of the Maipo River until the early 20th century. A powerful earthquake and changes in climate have since dried up all but one large branch of the river. Our vineyards now stand on one of the former branches of the river, which lends the soil characteristics that are unique in the valley and particularly good for grape production. The property has grown tremendously since Don Pietro founded it so many years ago. It now has 300 organically managed hectares planted to vine and still maintains its sense of being a family winery. The third and fourth generations of the De Martino family now work in the winery every day. Today, more than Read more »

  • My wife Sandra & I were impressed with the De Martino winery (Isla de Maipo in Chile, http://www.demartino.cl/tbk_webpay/index.php).  In this case though, the wines were pretty tasty!  They have a wonderful tasting table and a water tower too.  More pictures here:  http://www.bigal-computers.net/South-America-2014.php Read More

  • Hi everyone.  My wife Sandra and I have been into wine for the past few years and that's led to a few trips to Napa Valley and related areas in 2012 and 2013.  We enjoy all wines but reds are our favorites.  We hosted our first wine tasting party last night and it was a fun event - sixteen wine lovers trying different wines in a blind tasting.  ... • De Martino Nuevomundo Reserva Estate Bottled 2007

    Snoothrank:

Solid fruit. With Cab & Malbec, it's of French inspiration, but w/ a nice South American spice. Not super oaky. Acidity is on point. Maybe a little astringent. Organic grapes is a nice plus/selling point. Read More

  • De Martino Carmenere Single Vineyard 2010

    Snoothrank:

A bit tight but showing compelling complexity with floral, tobacco, and green peppercorn spice aromas framing the core of blue plum and black currant fruit. There's noticeable dose of oak here, but it remains buffered by the fruit. Rich with fruit tannins, this really pops on entry with bright, pure boysenberry and plum fruit layered over toasty...
