Welcome to D-Cubed Cellars website: a space dedicated to Zinfandel and the enjoyment of life, making wine, spending time with friends and good food. D-cubed Cellars started in 1994 with the Howell Mountain Zinfandel made grapes grown at the Black Sears Vineyard, and now I am we have the wines from our 13th vintage! 2006 was a great year for Napa Valley wines. They have wonderful forward fruit and some structure to keep them balanced and have age ability. – Description from markomkc

D-Cubed Cellars on Snooth

  • D Cubed Zinfandel Napa Valley 2007

    Snoothrank:

Fairly volatile nose. Initial mouth sensation is sweet. Lot of blackberry fruit. Some raisin. The good news is that the "sweet" sensation seems to be coming from fruit and not alcohol--it doesn't seem to be a particularly "hot" wine. OK wine to accompany a very casual meal, but not a Zin to seek out. US$23.99 at Wine Club about a year ago. Read More

  • Zinfandel, it’s no secret that I’ve carried on a long and intimate relationship with you. There is so much you have to offer. Sometimes you're a bit rough and tumble, edgy, even dangerous, while other times you’re coy or playful. But you’re always there for me, with joyous fruit, classic bramble notes and structure, allowing for early consumptio... Read More

  • D-Cubed Zinfandel Howell Mountain 2008

    Snoothrank:

Very pretty nose that shows very fine fruit aromas in the spicy, briary end of the spectrum. Theres a lovely layered freshness on the palate, juicy and a bit tropical with a hint of grapefruit over lots of plum and wild raspberry fruit. This is an easy-drinking style with soft tannins and decent acids, though it does turn creamy and a touch stic... Read More

  • D-Cubed Zinfandel Howell Mountain 2009

    Snoothrank:

This will not please everybody but the nose explodes with wild herbal perfumes, all stemmy and rich, with cut grass and herbal notes over raspberry fruit. Light and herbal on the palate as well, but this virtually dances across the palate with acidity and freshness in an almost weightless, really perfumed style. Just a beautifully fresh elegant ... • Being a cab lover I am hesitant to stray from what I like. On a recent occasion I had the opportunity to try a Zinfandel and to my amazement, it had some of the same attributes of the cabernets I love so well. I perused Snooth and stopped on a particular zin from Bogle vineyards. Gregory Dal Piaz gave it a nice rating and being a member of Snoot... Read More

  • D-Cubed Primitivo Napa Valley 2006

    Snoothrank:

For those of you unfamiliar with Primitivo, it's a close cousin to Zinfandel (and what great Zins come from Sonoma!), and in fact DNA testing has shown that it's nearly identical to Zinfandel grapes. The Primitivo is commonly grown in the "heel" of Italy, producing wonderful wines with bountiful fruit, and a somewhat higher alcohol content. No... Read More

  • D-Cubed Zinfandel Howell Mountain 2006

    Snoothrank:

Nice blackberry notes, not heavy or over-extracted, balanced, sweet on the finish, not as much white pepper as most Zins. Very pleasing and great value around $20. Drink within the next two years (by 2013). Read More
