Cupcake Vineyards

Our winery is located in Monterey County, California where warm days give way to cool nights as the fog rolls in off of the Pacific Ocean. It’s this cooling influence that slows the growing process, increasing the time the grapes “hang” on the vine and thereby allow our grapes to mature a little slower than in hotter regions. Slow growth and cool weather leads to a more balanced level of acids and sugars, thereby adding to the complexity and structure of the wines of the Central Coast. This region is poised to become one of the newest and most exciting viticultural opportunities in the coming years. This slow pace continues in our cellar where we take the time to craft wines that are complex, rewarding and hand made. Gentle pressing, cool fermentation, malolactic fermentation, and long barrel aging in small barriques allow us to elevate our wines so that they are rich, creamy and downright delicious. Our winemaker, Adam Richardson has since added a few additional wines from other cool Read more »

  • Cupcake Moscato d'Asti White 2010

    Snoothrank:

Oh yaa! Scrumptious! This wine is imported from Italy by Cupcake Vineyards Livermore, but they don't make it. This Moscato D'Asti is D'lightful. Slight fizz, not overly sweet, notes of pineapple on the finish. I'm goin back for more. Read More

  • Cupcake Riesling 2011

    Snoothrank:

Nice straw color, nice lime and lemon notes, good acid balance but a short finish. Slight honey--Pleasant wine that needs to be more extracted to be judged with the best QbAs. Very similar to their 2012 Mosel Riesling. Probably 1% RS. My rating 86. Read More

  • Cupcake Riesling Mosel Valley 2012

    Snoothrank:

I was a bit surprised that this Pfalz QbA was enjoyable. Nice fruit, good acid, 1% RS. Nice citrus and mineral. Excellent value. Lacks classic German Riesling perfume nose but still enjoyable. Not as much acid as their Mosel. My rating -- 86. Read More

  • Cupcake Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2013

  • Cupcake Red Velvet Cupcake Red Velvet 2009

    Snoothrank:

I have to start this review by noting their 2010 Cabernet from Chile is awful. Here we have incredible complexity and smoothness in a dry red for $10, it's hard to beat in its class. A little sour cherries in the front and rich oak and tannin on the finish. Vanilla, allspice, a touch of anisette, and just remarkable for 10 bucks. Read More

  • Cupcake Vineyards Zinfandel 2012

    Snoothrank:

Rather big and herbal on the nose but lovely ripe herbs all laid upon a base of sweet black currant and blackberry fruit supported by some cedary oak. Round, soft and a bit matte in the mouth this delivers slightly meaty and cocoa dusted black fruits with a subtle leathery edge. The acidity is a bit low for me, and the tannins rather soft but th... • I bought some Cupcake Pinot Grigio at Ralph's in San Diego today. The number on the bottle was 8130800106. Neither my husband nor I could remove the screw-top cap. When the cap was loosened, the entire top part, all of metal, revolved, and the cap could not be parted from the rest of the top piece. Finally, we had to use a metal snipper to t...

  • I recently discovered Cupcake Chardonnay and delcared it as my "newest favorite chard"! Having been a big fan of Domaine Chandon Chard, this rates equally as good and is much more affordable. Cheers to the vineyard and winemaker! Cupcake Girl
