  • Last October, I purchased a cellar to store my homemade wines and to give me the ability to store and age some commercial wines.  Though I consider what I do with my commercial wines "collecting", the wines I'm purchasing and aging don't really fall into what most deem "collectible" wines.  I don't spend $300 on a bottle of wine.  I rarely spend... Dirty, musty nose of black and green olive. Loaded with spice and earth. ... ... first, build. Has a bite. Cote Rotie-esque, but it's lacking fruit to balance it out. Leans too far the spice/dirt way.- Tasted at Khourys 6/23/ Read More

  • Paul Jaboulet Aîné Côte-Rôtie les Jumelles 1995

Surprisingly fragrant for it's age with a youthful bouquet of strawberry and other red berries with hints of cocoa. Creamy texture. Lovely dark berry fruit throughout and only hints of its age in the leather and dried leafy tones. Really stood up well. - Tasted at Schreiner's Winers: The Aging Process- Library/Older Wines 5/21/10 Read More

  • Bernard Burgaud Côte-Rôtie 1995

Nose of musty, sweet tobacco and dried cherries. Deep, dark and heavy. A chalkiness on the palate with some sour cherry flavors. Again, dense and dark. In time, it opened up to reveal more rounded fruit flavors and a nice dried leaf tone. Interesting to try a 16 year old syrah.- Tasted at Schreiner's Winers: The Aging Process- Library/Older... • Hospice du Rhone, the brainchild of John Alban, has become Spring's epicenter ... from Hermitage, Cornas & Cote Rotie.  Secondly, the major impediment I see for these wines in the U.S. is a function of their raw market presence.  While Syrah is such a global & highly competitive category, South African versions do have a singularity in style t... • My father started the tradition when my nieces and nephew were born.  He did it for my daughter too with a 1981 Cabernet. Now she is having a child and I'd like to continue the tradition.  I know it's still early for 2010 wines, but I thought I'd get this started. Any recommendations for a 2010 red wine that should age WELL for the next 21 years?...
