Concannon Vineyard

They could speak, the rocks of Concannon Vineyard would tell a tale rich in history. Concannon’s treasured contributions to winemaking have positioned it as landmark winery with an enduring commitment to creating outstanding, award-winning wines. We have a history of proud firsts. We were one of the first wineries to pioneer Bordeaux and Rhone-styled wines in California. We are the home of America's first successful Irish vintner, the world's first Petite Sirah and world-class wines from our fruitful, rocky soil. As a founding family of California wines, Concannon created the hardworking Cabernet Sauvignon Clones 7 and 8, which helped plant much of Napa in the 1970s. Pioneering founder, James Concannon, began making wine in the Livermore Valley in 1883. Now, his passion for family and fine wine is evident in every aspect of Concannon Vineyard and we’re fortunate to share it with you today.

  • Concannon Vineyard Red Blend Livermore Valley Conservancy Crimson & Clover 2009

    Snoothrank:

So...trying my best to venture beyond my favorite style (pinot noir). This petite sirah from the Livermore Valley reminds me of pinot noir. Almost too silky and smooth, but difficult to ignore the beautiful black berry, spice, and apple pie notes. Very good at $13! Read More

  • Concannon Estate Bottled Livermore Valley Petite Sirah 1979

    Snoothrank:

Very nice aromas--smokey, leathery. Interesting fruitiness on the initial taste--something of stone fruits covered with the smokiness. There is a certain lightness in the back of the palate that portends a fairly short finish. This wine does not come with multiple levels of complexity, but it is very enjoyable. $US16.25 at Lawry's California ... Read More

  • Liver what? It’s that great wine region you’ve never heard of. Less than an hour from San Francisco. A growing wine scene based on a century and a half of history. Great climate, friendly people, tasting rooms that are not filled to capacity with people you don’t want to be rubbing shoulders with. You know, one of those regions that is truly up ... Read More

  • On Tuesday I wrote with great pleasure about a group of Cabernets that were right about $25 a bottle, some less. They represented much of what I look for in Cabernet, and at an affordable price. Today I turn my sights to wines that promise much more. At least they are priced in such a way as to promise much more, not that they always deliver.  T... Read More

  • Concannon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Livermore Valley 2009

    Snoothrank:

Rather oaky on the nose with a deep base of earth and black spice. In the mouth this shows off juicy acids and soft tannins that help to support fruit that is perhaps a touch simple but very precise and clear all mineral tinged and slightly orange toned black currant and wild blackberry fruit. This has a fabulous texture, fresh and old school wi... Read More

  • Concannon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Central Coast Selected Vineyards 2010

    Snoothrank:

A little truffly over-ripeness greets the nose along with clear note of candied cinnamon, vanilla, and spicy red fruits. This is smooth but rather transparent in the mouth with lots of soft tannins and good acidity supporting simple and slightly cooked flavors of raspberry and cherry. The oak is playing a supporting role here as well, adding som... Read More

  • The Petite Syrah is one of my favorites available in my hometown. I love spicy, big berry, and slightly tanic reds like this. I'd like to try their Pinot Noir, but it isn't carried by my local liquor store. Living in UT, I am limited on the selection available to me, and the worst of it is I cannot have wine shipped to my home!
