The partners agreed in 2005 that a winery properly scaled and singularly focused on Col Solare would best realize the wine's extra-ordinary potential. They chose property on Red Mountain to build Col Solare, Italian for "shining hill." On April 12th, 2007, Col Solare celebrated its grand opening. The refined state-of-the-art winery was constructed from sustainable materials. Behind the dramatic 300 foot stone and concrete wall that emulates the basalt cliffs lining the valley, the winemaking cellar and adjoining "barri cai" enjoy the natural cooling temperature of the earth. • Hey DV!I did go to Taste WA and thought of you while I was there. All the usual top end suspects were there and their wines did not disappoint. Betz and Gramercy were both standouts for Southern Rhone and Syrah. Long Shadows Pedestal (Merlot) was stellar. Col Solare was pouring a 2001 red blend. They always bring an older vintage to taste, which... Read More

  • Col Solare Red Bordeaux Blend Columbia Valley 2004

Let's fast forward from HappyRobot's review of July 29,2010 to December 2, 2015 and I can echo the same sentiments. This 2004 Col Solare has proven to be a wine that has held its color and intense flavors. The blueberry and plum aromatics are most prevalent to my nose and the finish just hangs on the pallet. A wonderful project that has stood th... Read More

  • Col Solare Red Bordeaux Blend Columbia Valley Shining Hill 2006

The wine is a deep purple color with ruby along the edges and somewhat opaque. The nose is actually surprisingly fruity, with aromas of blackberry, plum and cassis overlaid with some lovely baking spice and mineral notes. The taste is quite fresh with some blueberry and blackberry up front that easily transitions to some cherry cola and mint m... Read More

  • OH YEA- The Barnett Rattlesnake Hill is an absolutely sensuous experience. Two years ago my boss gave me 6 bottles since he and his wife preferred Pinot style wines. Lucky me.Had a 94 Dominus last Sat that my sisters boss gave her. I thought it may be over the hill but it was elegant and had a delicate long finish. He has over a million.$ worth ... Read More

  • I am a life long wine enthusiast with a preference for Bordeaux, particularly if consumed at maturity. I do enjoy wines from other parts of the world but find I like the ones that have a claret style best. I dislike CA/domestic  fruit bombs that seem so prevalent and popular in the U S.My bias toward Bordeaux was probably set when a friend of mi... Read More

  • Col Solare Red Bordeaux Blend Columbia Valley Shining Hill 2007

The wine is a lovely deep ruby in the glass with good clarity. The nose is a nice combination of leather, oak, ripe plum, and cocoa lower that washes over a base of fresh herbs and green grass. The taste is quite nice with a blast of ripe plum, blackberries and cassis up front that transitions to some mineral notes mid palate, iron, limestone an... Read More
