Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona is a wine that is produced in the Medieval town of Montalcino in Tuscany, Italy. The estate with its magnificent palazzo was originally built in the 16th century. The wine officially got its name In the mid-1900s, when Alberto Piccolomini d’Aragona wed Elda Ciacci, countess of the property who oversaw its winemaking operations. Giuseppe Bianchini inherited the estate in 1985, where he upheld traditions while updating techniques and operations. His children Paolo and Lucia now oversee production. These highly regarded wines are produced with organic and sustainable cultivation, preserving the truest expressions of the grapes.

Ciacci Piccolomini on Snooth

  • Brunello di Montalcino Ciacci Piccolomini 2009

    Snoothrank:

Fine, black cherry, and black berry fruit, with elegant dried floral notes are the focus on the nose, along with burnt orange, iron, and a subtle richness. The palate has a fine grain, and elegant weight, with flavors of black cherry skins, anise, and some dried herbs. A bit awkward at this young age, with plenty of upside. 90Pts Read More

  • A ridiculous number of trigger pullworthies in this new offering, many in their absolute drinking prime. Wish the shop was just down the street from me, rather than the ones that are. But then I'd have to live in NYC.  ;-(I love it when a guy drops 100 cases on a shop, just to 'make some space" in his cellar. Wonder what's going to be filling th... Read More

  • BB, I know I speak for the group when I say we all had a great time the other ... BrunelloBob brought, a 2004 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino. This is what I think sangiovese should be.  Smooth with ripe stone fruit, fine tannin, a touch of earthiness and a long tongue coating finish that begged you to take another sip.We a... Read More

  • I looked at the wine list and I can't really tell what things cost because ... also a 2007 Brunello from Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona for about $80, and '07 is an early drinking vintage, so it should be good with a decant.  I'd say the Italians have less selection than the Bords, but someone there likes them and makes them values. No US reds? ...
