Château Talbot is a Grand Cru Classé (Fourth Growth, Quatrième Cru) in Saint-Julien in Bordeaux, France. The estate was founded in the 15th century by Connétable John Talbot, English soldier and governor of Guyenne, who was defeated in the 1453 Battle of Castillon. It eventually fell into the hands of the Marquis of Aux, which lasted several decades before acquisition by Désiré Cordier in 1917. It was his son, Georges and his grandson, Jean, who propelled the estate to earn the reputation it achieved as one of the top wines of the Médoc in the later part of the 20th century. Jean Cordier’s daughter, Nancy Bignon Cordier and her husband, Jean-Paul Bignon, currently oversee production.

The vineyard area covers 102 hectares, with the majority devoted to red grape cultivation from vines averaging 42 years old. Cabernet Sauvignon is the dominant varietal, followed by Merlot and Petit Verdot. The whites (Caillou Blanc) are 80% Read more »

  • An excellent value left bank Bordeaux. It expresses the minerality inherent to the old world whilst expressing some chalky tannic cherry goodness. Is it the most expressive wine in the land? No. But it IS a superb example of value from the region.

  • Talbot 4th Cru St Julien 2008

    Snoothrank:

Shoe polish and leather dominate the tight and inexpressive nose. While this is a bit easy going, smooth, and moderately rich in the mouth it lacks some detail early on the palate, though it does gain a little olive accent to the berry fruit on the backend, it remains mostly details and a bit anonymous with a bit of a coffee cream finish. textu... • Saint Julien Bordeaux Château Talbot Cbo Blles 1992

    Snoothrank:

My Rating 84: this is a very dry balanced wine with no outstanding features. If you never drank bourdeaux you will be disappointed. the nose is restrained ,earthy not overpowering. Paying $ 60 is nuts and should be left up to rich Chinese people. Read More

  • Howdy, folks.  I have access to very well preserved mid-90s Mondavi reserve cabs. I have been eyeing them for a while and wondered if anyone here has opened them recently and cared to share their thoughts on whether they are worth the $100 or so it would cost to acquire them. Thanks in advance.
