The history of Chateau Rauzan-Segla started in the reign of Louis XIV, when Pierre de Rauzan acquired the estate in 1 661. This wealthy man, a leading and well-reputed Bordeaux wine trader, also became the tax farmer of Chateau Margaux and Chateau Latour. Over the years, generations of the Rauzan family succeeded to the running of the estate, as they were to become Counsellors of the Bordeaux Parliament as well. Frederic Cruse, the estate's owner, had the current chateau built in 1 903. He approached the architect Louis Garros, who drew his inspiration from the original Read more »

  • This past Thursday was a very nice evening out on the town (Washington DC).  We started with a tasty dinner at Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab - a place we've dined before and loved.   This night we arrived about 30 minutes before the dining room opened, so we sat at the bar next to two interesting gentlemen.  Sandra wanted a 1/2 dozen... • Not limited. I've been in NYC most of my life and had access to any Bordeaux I wanted, and even now that I'm mostly in CA, thanks to the internet I have access to pretty much anything. It's been years since I went into stores to buy most of my wine - that was mostly a rhetorical flourish. I was quite pleased with it though!Being in the business ... Read More

  • I am a life long wine enthusiast with a preference for Bordeaux, particularly if consumed at maturity. I do enjoy wines from other parts of the world but find I like the ones that have a claret style best. I dislike CA/domestic  fruit bombs that seem so prevalent and popular in the U S.My bias toward Bordeaux was probably set when a friend of mi... Read More

  • Hey everyone, what are some of your favorite 'everyday' or M-F types of wines to accompany a regular dinner?  I personally have enjoyed the Montoya Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, and I usually pick it up from Total Wines out here in Virginia.  This is one of those fruit-forward cabs that isn't too complex for me to appreciate, and it usually cost... •    I just posted almost all of my notes on Bordeaux 2012 on my ... not please me that much. The Chateau Rauzan Segla Margaux 2001 was certainly smooth with a bit of meatiness that was not exactly screaming "Margaux elegance" and it was a touch short. But flavorful. Perhaps not the best vintage for this otherwise excellent estate.  It was great... Read More
