It is, however, facing the times ahead, by bearing future crops and forces us to serve it with the same state of mind. We have therefore pampered the young grapes with just as much devotion, but with a heavier heart than usual. Life has given us a few subtle ways of helping plants to withstand delicate periods more easily. • I am a life long wine enthusiast with a preference for Bordeaux, particularly if consumed at maturity. I do enjoy wines from other parts of the world but find I like the ones that have a claret style best. I dislike CA/domestic  fruit bombs that seem so prevalent and popular in the U S.My bias toward Bordeaux was probably set when a friend of mi... Read More

  •  Over the course of the last few months, the Bordeaux 2009′s have started hitting the shelves. With hot, dry weather throughout the growing season, this vintage has been receiving great reviews. Willow Park Wines here in Calgary, AB brought the 09′s out last Friday night and offered customers a chance to taste a nice line up of them at their ann... Read More

  • Just posted full notes on Bordeaux 2011, with videos and photos and analysis, and feel like rattling off wines that come to mind as the most memorable, if not necessarily the "best" ...The first list evidently does not take price into account, and does not include Latour and Mouton, which I did not taste, nor several apparently kick ass Pomerols... • A couple of news items I was pondering today.First, Robert Parker came out with his ratings for the 2009 Bordeaux vintage. Ever the masochist, I decided to go look at some prices in the marketplace after the ratings were released. Some samplings:2009 Chatau Latour                        100 points                  $21,500 a case2009 Chateau Marg... Read More

  • Sadly I did Not. I had a busy weekend that involved wine, but sadly that was mostly inventorying, packing, and moving wine around the state of NY! Got about a dozen cases moved closer to home, so now I'm pretty well set for the next few months of drinking! Next bottle up looks like it might very well be 1987 Dunn Napa Valley. Funny how Dunn was ... Read More

Tight now, but this will be a tremendous wine! Very tasty now, so over time, the improvement should make for an exquisite Pauillac.- WS Grand Tour 2011 Read More

  • Just a quick posting on a tasting we did last week.  We've been celebrating our tenth anniversary, and I stockpiled 2001s.  Good thing it was a strong vintage in so many places.  Of course, the 2001 Gran Reservas from Rioja are, in some cases, just hitting the market and are terrific values. We celebrated with a bottle we bought in the first cou... Read More
