Château Pétrus
Château Petrus is one of the world’s most distinguished and prized wines. The winery is located in the eastern portion of Pomerol in the Bordeaux region of France. While Pomerol has never been granted “growth” classification status, Petrus is widely considered on par with other First Growth wines.
It may be hard to fathom, but for the first couple of centuries of its existence, Petrus was a cheap, hard sell. The estate was under the management of the Arnaud family until 1925, when hotel owner Madame Edmond Loubat acquired sole ownership of the property. With consultation from negociant Jean-Pierre Moueix, they reinvented the entire winemaking process on the tiny 12 hectare vineyard to a precise science and raised the price of the wine to signify its value.
