  • Like many foodies, I adore oysters on the half shell. One of my first jobs working in a professional kitchen as a kid, after I was promoted from the pot sink, was shucking oysters and serving them iced on the half shell. I got very adept at opening them very quickly – but of course, who doesn’t prefer to have someone open their oysters for them?... Read More

  • He's got the best nose in the country which arguably knows wine best. Jonathan Bauer-Monneret won the title France's best sommelier this fall at the Union de la Sommellerie Francaise's (UDSF) 28th annual event in Beaune. Bauer-Monneret beat out three other competitors on the road to the championship, according to local wine sources: Mikaël Grou ... Read More

  • Here's another of those eye-popping offers from HDH, though it always surprises me how (relatively) reasonable bottle prices are for older Bordeaux library offerings compared to those from the last several years. And Montrose itself was never really found by the Chinese. There's no question of provenance here since these bottles are all from the... Read More

  • I looked at the wine list and I can't really tell what things cost because I have almost no idea what their currency is (well, it's the Krona, but anyone can look it up) and at 195 of those to the dollar, a country with presumably high costs, I'm just guessing, but it won't be cheap.  But you are already there, so drink something good. With that... •    I just posted almost all of my notes on Bordeaux 2012 on my ... ... appealed.  The Chateau Olivier 2009 white was a touch warm, but of high quality, while the Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2010 white proved its mettle yet again (I liked it from barrel, from bottle earlier this year) with quite ripe orange but also very good acidity.  After the... • Rioja Olivier Riviere Rayos Uva Red Vintage Rioja Spain 2010

    Snoothrank:

On the nose, this wine is bright with currants and dark berries, with sweet spices and cedar rounding it off. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and filled with red and black currants, backed by ripe black cherry and sweet spice. Fine tannins and a nice acidic zip to the fruit on the finish. Read More

  • If I were anywhere near New York on the 29th I'd be going to this event. Great wine, interesting winemakers, and lots of old posters, art nouveau or otherwise. Why is it I'd rather have one of them on my wall then a Flash banner ad from the Web?Price seems like more than a bargain, and the money goes to charity, too....   ... Here's your chance ...
