Château Lynch-bages

Château Lynch-Bages was owned by the Lynch family for three quarters of a century. They descended from John Lynch, a young Irishman from Galway who was chased out of his country in 1691. In the 18th century, Count Jean-Baptiste Lynch, mayor of Bordeaux, inherited the estate and handed over management to his brother Michel Lynch, who was also mayor of Pauillac during the French Revolution. Jean-Charles Cazes, highly respected in the Médoc for his experience in viticul- ture and winemaking, bought the property in 1934. With his son André, he devoted all his energy to Lynch-Bages for more than 35 years. In 1974, his grand-son Jean-Michel Cazes set about restructuring and managing the estate and recently, in 2006, handed over the running of the property to his son Jean-Charles. – Description from JelaDragoljevic

  • GREGT- you are right about Chappellet. At any price point I  have  always thought their value was justified and Keenen as well.I can only assume from your earlier posts that there is limited Bordeaux at value prices where you live, and you are right that many of the better known Bordeaux skyrocketed in price thanks in part to the Chinese. • I am a life long wine enthusiast with a preference for Bordeaux, particularly if consumed at maturity. I do enjoy wines from other parts of the world but find I like the ones that have a claret style best. I dislike CA/domestic  fruit bombs that seem so prevalent and popular in the U S.My bias toward Bordeaux was probably set when a friend of mi... Read More

Appealing garnet color. Phenolic mixed with something of an herbaceous nose. Very unpretentious introduction to the palate. Only the slightest Cabernet/Cassis hint of fruit. Subsequent flavors Im getting are resinous, woody tannin. Theres nothing particularly offensive about this wine, but it has, pretty much, wasted a lot of space in my i... Read More

  • A ridiculous number of trigger pullworthies in this new offering, many in their absolute drinking prime. Wish the shop was just down the street from me, rather than the ones that are. But then I'd have to live in NYC.  ;-(I love it when a guy drops 100 cases on a shop, just to 'make some space" in his cellar. Wonder what's going to be filling th... Read More
