Château Loupiac-Gaudiet

It is the 18th century when the shipowner Jean Belso made build the castle of Loupiac of the dimension of his boat, to make his holiday home.

In 1919, the grandfather of Marc Ducau, already owner of the castle Pontac to Loupiac, buys the castle Loupiac, renamed Loupiac-Gaudiet, Gaudiet being the name of the plot of land of the vine behind the castle.

In 1964, Marc Ducau takes back the estate. His nephew Daniel Sanfourche comes to assist him in 1986, joins by his wife in 1991. Daniel is a manager of the estate since 1995 and was joined by his son Nicolas in 2014.

The vineyard is located on hillsides, overhanging the Garonne.

The middle-aged vineyard of 40 years extends over a 28 hectare surface. The semillon dominates the grape varieties in 90 %, completed by 10 % of sauvignon.

Thanks to the particular climate of our region, with morning mists and the sunny afternoons of the autumn, that Botrytis Cinerea develops.

  • In past posts here on the Forum I have confessed that I regularly drink inexpensive wines.  In fact, I have been doing less of that, lately, but last night I picked one out of the rack that, pretty much, blew me away;  Epicuro 2009 Salice Salentino -- US$4.99 at Trader Joe's.This wine is a blend of Negroamaro (80%) and Malvasia Nera (20%) grapes... •  Hello all!I am proud to be a wine lover, but an amateur at best. To improve my knowledge I have been studying (God bless my university's library!) as much as I can about regions, varietals, etc. through books and whatnot. Recently, I came across a sub-region in the Bordeaux appellation called Sauternes. The way my book (Zraly's wine course...) ... Read More
