  very controversial. bought 10-12 bottles after tasting the first bottle. some of those confirmed the decision, some were clearly not interesting..flat..and boring. still experimenting.

Read more 2005 Bordeaux, a vintage for the ages. 2005 is very possibly the most hyped vintage ever to emerge from Bordeaux yet the wines are proving to be worthy of all the early press and very possibly even the inflated prices. While climatic irregularities have recently plagued Bordeaux, from the record shattering heat wave of 2003 to the damp and cool summer of 2002, 2005 was a textbook growing season. Temperatures all summer remained warm but not excessively so, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly while retaining good acidity levels that have kept the finished wines fresh and balanced. While rainfall was minimal all summer, an ever-more common feature of Bordeaux summers, there were refreshing rains during September that ensured the grapes could complete their ripening during this crucial month. The resultant Bordeaux, from both the Merlot dominated right-bank and Cabernet dominated left bank are some of the biggest, dense wines to ever emerge from these hallowed vineyards remain elegant and well-balanced. Tannin levels and alcohol levels are among the highest ever recorded due to the ideal growing conditions. Every element is in harmony and the wine in the glass fairly screams of it’s origins. These are powerful, richly fruited wines that will only improve in the cellar and deserve the attention of every wine aficionado! Value Bordeaux selections from the Haut-Medoc A pair of value leaders would be the Ch. Lanessan( http://www.snooth.com/wine/chateau-lanessan-2005/) and Ch. While relatively inexpensive for Bordeaux these both out-performed their price point in 2005 and offer the added advantage of being closer to their drinking window than many of their more esteemed brethren. With a vigorous decant either can be enjoyed this winter and would make a fine addition to your holiday table. A Great Cru Bourgeois Stepping up the intensity a bit, the Ch. Chasse Spleen ( http://www.snooth.com/wine/chateau-chassespleen-2005/)is an affordable entry point into fine Bordeaux that is not only approachable today, offering a classic array of flavors with just a edge of rusticity that separates it from many of the technically perfect wines produced today, but will gain added complexity with time in the cellar. Classed Growth Bordeaux can be the buys of the vintage My two favorite wines of the vintage surprised me not only for they quality but also for the very reasonable price! It’s always a great surprise to be wowed by an affordable wine and I found the Ch. Duhart Milon (http://www.snooth.com/wine/chateau-duhart-milon-2005-6/) and Ch. Boyd Cantenac (http://www.snooth.com/wine/boyd-cantenac-2005/) to be rich, powerful wines with the elegance and breeding of bottles that cost far more. They are two Classed Growth Properties with storied histories that deserve a place in every Bordeaux aficionados’ cellar!   Pretty tight nose that only opened a notch after a couple of hours. Cedar and some red fruit mostly. Light body, a little unbalanced on the hot side. Nice finish. [87]
