This part of the property, where the original chateau was located, situated on gravelly land on Margaux's highest knolls, was surrounded by the most famous vineyards of this village. The wines of L'Abbé Gorsse Pérès, like those of Labégorce Rooryck, were the leading crus bourgeois supérieurs of Margaux and the first time they were exhibited, in 1905 in Liege, they won both a Gold Medal and a Grand Prize. Château Margaux bought the vineyard back and, in 2002, Hubert Perrodo acquired the 17th century building. Labégorce is the heart of the estate: in the centre of the property stands an elegant, Restoration-era, neo-classical mansion, the work of the architect Corcelles (1765-1843). When it was built, the owner was Elisabeth Weltener, the widow of Jean Marcellin Bernard. It later passed in to the hands of Mr Capelle in 1832. Mr Fortuné Beaucourt then also acquired it in 1865.
