With its twenty hectares in one single plot, Chateau La Vieille Cure already appears on a famous map of the Guyenne region, known as the Belleyme map, dated 1780. The vines grow on plateaux and slopes that are lucky enough to be turned to the south west. The estate runs along the River Isle at a height of 65 metres and not only drinks up the sun, but also enjoys good drainage. This situation makes the grapes that grow here generously ripe and in perfect condition. The property has been greatly renovated since it was bought by American friends at the end of 1986, who are great Bordeaux lovers and who recognised the exceptional potential of the estate. A large part of the vineyard was remodelled and replanted, without of course touching the very old vines of which one plot is a hundred years old. A new cellar was built with the latest equipment and aging in casks was begun. The overall objective of these investments was to make high quality wines capable of world-wide distribution. Château La Vieille Cure on Snooth

  • On a warm June day I was lost on the winding roads of Canon-Fronsac, an appellation on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. When I finally turn up more than an hour late at Château Moulin-Pey-Labrie, owner Grégoire Hubau makes a few witty digs about wine critics rarely finding their way to this little-known region. We head for his cellar, hung with amusing po... Read More

  • Château la Vieille Cure Red Bordeaux Blend Fronsac 2003

    Snoothrank:

Delicious. We had two bottles from our cellar last night. Previously we had tried one about two years ago and at the time we thought it was good after it opened up and had high expectations going forward. It is much more open now out of the bottle with very ripe berry flavors and was a tasty addition to our dinner. Read More

  • Château la Vieille Cure Red Bordeaux Blend Fronsac 2004

    Snoothrank:

Purple-tinged red color in the glass. Earthy nose with a touch of oak. On the palate this wine shows concentrated dark fruit flavors with black currant and a great earthy character. Medium body with firm tannins. This is a great Old World blend of merlot with cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Read More

  • Château la Vieille Cure Red Bordeaux Blend Fronsac 2003

    Snoothrank:

I enjoyed this while listening to the New Years concert in Vienna was on the radio. It was given to me as a present from this past birthday. It was a glorious dark ruby in color damn near to opaque except at the rim which shone like a gem, it was so perfectly clear. On the nose succulent black cherry, marion berry and mushroom. Taste, very dry, ... Read More
