Dr. Konstantin Frank ignited the “Vinifera Revolution” a movement that forever changed the course of wine growing in the Finger Lakes and the United States. Dr. Frank’s vision, knowledge and determination are credited with elevating the New York wine industry from a state of happy mediocrity to a level that today commands world attention. A European immigrant, Dr. Frank and his family arrived in the United States in 1951. After a brief stay in New York City, Dr. Frank, a professor of plant sciences who held a Ph.D. in viticulture, moved upstate to take a position at Cornell University’s Geneva Experiment Station. He continued to promote his beliefs and to seek a sympathetic ear, which he found in Charles Fournier, a French champagne maker and president of nearby Gold Seal Vineyards. • Sorry, haven't been on here for a couple days so I thought it was time to catch up. Woke up Saturday morning and found ourselves in Marseilles where we're starting our next great wine adventure. First day was spent trying to get rid of the jet lag cobwebs so we took it easy, checked out Aix-en-Provence and then headed to the villa in St. Remy. D... • Chardonnay, perhaps more than any other wine from California, has seen a continued subtle shift in style over the past decade or so. Interestingly the shift parallels to a certain extent developments with Australian Shiraz that put the breaks on the growth of those wines. Simply put the most popular, and critically acclaimed style was one that f... Read More

  • I am pretty much prejudiced towards red wines.  However, that does not mean that I drink them exclusively.  I do drink quite a bit of white wine.  Probably, because, like most Americans my age, we are encouraged to bias out protein input away from red meats.  The good news for me is that I do love seafood and chicken.  So, that is really not a s... I'd love to get a Barolo but the cost is a bit prohibitive...I'm like to keep it at about 15 a bottle or less. Also maybe a light Italian white to have with appetizers. Unfortunately I live... • Hi, I am looking to buy birth year bottles for my girls (born in '95 and '97).  Which region and varietal can hold up for 21 years before popping the cork?  I'm guessing French wines will be the most common response, but my knowledge to this region is pretty limited (primarily drink CA, WA, and Italian wines).  Also not looking to break the bank... • We just did a head to head wine taste off: East Coast (Dr. Frank's 2008 Semi-dry Riesling) vs. West Coast (Chateau Ste. Michelle 2008 Riesling). The result? We love them both for different reasons! Do you prefer East Coast wines or West Coast wines or do you, like me, find reasons to love them both? Read More
