The 250 acre Escarelle vineyards lie at the heart of an extensive 2500 acre estate, which has been preserved in its natural beauty with groves of pine and oak, fields of lavender and thyme, and underground colonies of wild truffles. The vineyards, which are terraced with antiquated stone embankments, are pebbled with limestone and encircled by the gentle hills of the Var against a backdrop of the Loube Mountain. The sweeping Provencal landscape bestows on Escarelle the blessings of exceptional sunshine and a mild Mediterranean climate.
From the Vineyard to the Cellar: Insistence on Quality
The Escarelle vineyards are meticulously cultivated under the principles of “lutte raisonée”, a variation of organic farming with no pesticides or chemicals used for preventative purposes and an unceasing respect for the environment.
The yields are carefully kept low to produce a collection of wines that express the soil, producing concentrated and rich wines with seductive aromatics. After fermentation, the wines are carefully stored in cool cellars until bottling. The top level red wines are aged in oak barrels.
Reds, Whites, Rosés: Expertise in Full Color
The blending of Escarelle Syrah, Mourvedre and Cabernet Sauvignon produce premier quality, age-worthy red wines that exhibit ripe fruit aromas, silky tannins, hints of vanilla and undergrowth, together with a subtly spiced finish. The Roses, rich in Cinsault and Grenache, are fruity and sensual, and display great elegance. The Whites, which are blended from Rolle and Ugni Blanc, reveal beautiful acidity, crisp citrus notes, and an opulent mouth feel. The Chardonnay-based Mistral expresses complex aromatics.
And if the Sun King (Louis XIV) Had Tasted the Wines of Escarelle?
Provence is the birthplace of French vine and its wines have achieved an undeniable reputation for quality. Escarelle has been a noteworthy part of the history of France at least since the “big map of France” was drawn up for Louis XIV by mapmaker Francois Cassini. The Guide Hachette has designated Escarelle as a notable wine of France every year since 1998. The wines of Escarelle have been awarded numerous prizes from the Paris Agricultural Competition, Great Wine Competition of France (Mâcon), and the World Rosé Competition. (hide)
