  • On a recent trip to Bordeaux, I had the extreme pleasure of exploring a ... I ... I had during my stay were at Chateau de Fargues, where we enjoyed their wines with oysters, fish, roasted fennel, and of course, blue cheese. At Chateau de Fargues, their only caveat is to avoid overly sweet desserts, and in fact they don’t classify their wines a... Read More

  • Quite the sea change in Bordeaux as prices seem a bit more affordable these days (as opposed to the 2009 bull rush just 5-6 years ago), and it appears they have a vintage that strikes the right balance between cool and warm. Not a too hot or too cold year that is, probably the first one like it since 2008.Eyeing Grand Puy Lacoste at $53/each, Du... Read More

  • There are hundreds of sweet wines but if we had a survey to name just one, bet your bottom dollar that Sauternes would be top of the list. This famous French sweetie is served at posh dinner parties and top restaurants around the world, usually in those silly little ‘thimble’ glasses but hey, let’s talk about the wine itself for a minute. The Sa... Read More

  • If I were anywhere near New York on the 29th I'd be going to this event. Great wine, interesting winemakers, and lots of old posters, art nouveau or otherwise. Why is it I'd rather have one of them on my wall then a Flash banner ad from the Web?Price seems like more than a bargain, and the money goes to charity, too....   ... Here's your chance ... • Château Rieussec Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend Sauternes 2003

Lively on the nose with a big, creamy marshmallow and dried tropical fruit tone supported by background notes of sweetly spiced wood and roasted nuts. Big and creamy in the mouth with a touch of caramel dominating the dried pear fruits and background botrytis tones. A bit hollow on the midpalate but the caramel cream tones gain in intensity. 90pts.
