We have kept the Peugeot motorcycle which Michel Picard used to travel throughout Burgundy when he first started work, meeting the people and getting to know the whole region intimately. It is now preserved at Chateau de Chassagne Montrachet as a symbol of how far his company has come. In the early seventies, he took over the family operation, with the help of his wife Liliane, who is also born in a family of winemakers. Francine and Gabriel, his children, joined him in the late nineties. – Description from dvoristanac

  • BLM, what are you setting next to it as backup?  ;-) A friend asked me to pick up some bottles for use this Thanksgiving. Had to go Tokyo bricks and mortar, and had little time today. Went on what I know he and the crowd likes and what I know of the menu (some shellfish and sashimi starters then straight into the big bird and heavy sides, with s... Read More

  • Hard to say what it exactly is, but we've all had moments when wines were really open and "singing" maybe after a quick decant, or hours of air, they just started to open and catch fire. I can think of quite a few wines that stick out in this way, though it seems like a very unpredictable phenomenon. Also, what the heck is going on with wines th... Read More

  • A ridiculous number of trigger pullworthies in this new offering, many in their absolute drinking prime. Wish the shop was just down the street from me, rather than the ones that are. But then I'd have to live in NYC.  ;-(I love it when a guy drops 100 cases on a shop, just to 'make some space" in his cellar. Wonder what's going to be filling th... Read More

  •    I just posted almost all of my notes on Bordeaux 2012 on my website, and I must say that Trotanoy and La Fleur Petrus are actually tempting me, price-wise, to "pull the futures trigger".  But that's about it.  Palmer, also on my very top list of faves, is just too expensive. I mean, I could get a Leoville Poyferre 1990 for about the same pric... Read More

09 CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET CLOS DU CHATEAU, 1ER CRUChateau de la Maltroye , White Wine, 750mlAlways a winner, this shows a purity and vibrance unusual for the vintage. A mingling of peaches and fresh citrus, laced with white flowers and flowing minerality. Stylishly serious - and most seriously delicious! Read More

  • I've been powering through wines from Spain, South Africa, and Chile. I've got say that of all of them the Carmeneres ahve been the most surpring. You've got to like a bit of herbaceousness in your wines, which I do, but in general they were some really distinctive and intresting wines. For summer the Rose season is apon us but I have yet to be ...
