Born in 1762 during the reign of Louis XV and died in 1853 under Napoleon III, at the remarkable age of 91, Louis Gaspard d'Estournel had one sole passion: Cos. Having inherited a few vines near the village of Cos, he recognized, in 1811, the quality of their wine and decided to vinify them separately. – Description from Dragac

  • Saw this story about Antonio Galloni leaving the Wine Advocate.  (I first saw it somewhere else, but this was the easiest one to link to today.)  I haven't got any particular sense of what Galloni likes, although one kind of assumes that Parker would hire someone somewhat in his own image if he was planning to turn over some of the areas Bob has... • With the help of instantaneous search results, anyone can pick out a good $100 bottle of wine these days. The real question is how to bluff your way to the blue chip crowd and how to look good doing it. • There is virtually zero reason to buy Bordeaux 2011 en primeur, but there was one wine that I found so delicious, harmonious, and complete: Calon Segur. More charming than the rather tannic beast that 2010 is. Almost as good as the 2009. The price is right, for me. I bought a six pack. Here notes from my blog on Bordeaux 2011: Among the Saint Est... • Château Cos d'Estournel Red Bordeaux Blend St. Estèphe 1990

    Snoothrank:

The nose was savory and meaty with dark red fruits, sweet cinnamon spice and hint of liquor. On the palate, it was big and rich with ripe, juicy fruit and herbal tea. The finish was mouth-coating but turned juicy with a slight medicinal note. This was a very sexy wine that was more fun to drink than to think about. Read More

  • I recently tasted some older Bordeaux with a few writers and Snoothers here in New York. Some words have already been written about the evening, in part by myself, but primarily by fellow attendees. A few people have communicated privately with me to ask about the wines and my impressions, so I figured I would take the time to write up my notes ... Read More

  • I’m often asked, “Why should I cellar wine?” Now, we’re not talking about a well-stocked shelf of bottles to pull from or a Eurocave filled with your favorite juice. We’re talking about a wine cellar filled with vintages that are left to sit for years or decades in perfect, cool, moist, dark, vibration-free harmony. The answer is simple to me; f... Read More
