The Citran vineyards are divided into two. One plot is adjacent to the Margaux appellation and is very near to the chateau. The other is close to the town of Avensan, at the heart of the Haut-Medoc appellation. The first is the most spectacular. The gravel crest on which it lies slopes gently down towards the chateau and its wooded grounds. Cabernet Sauvignon covers 58% of the 90 hectares, and Merlot only 42%. In a never ending race towards quality, the work is never finished, and even now the gravel crests are being deforested to plant Cabernet Sauvignon vine plants. This will increase the Cabernet Sauvignon content in the composition of this Grand Vin. This decision is the living proof of the new owners' professionalism. Before even buying the property, they had noticed a high zone covered with acacia trees, trees which only grow on deep and highly drained land such as the Medoc gravel. Land which is perfect for vines. Over the next few years, these new plots will replace older plots of lower quality Read more »

  • Chateau Citran 2010

    Snoothrank:

Leafy, bright and fresh on the nose with berry aromas in a lighter scale. Very fresh, pure and easy going in the mouth with good fruit that shows a touch of herbal nuance. rather small scaled but well balanced and easy to drink. 86pts Read More

  • Château Citran Red Bordeaux Blend Haut-Médoc 2000

    Snoothrank:

This is a powerful wine which in 2012 still has the ability to age for at least another 2-3 years. It has a strong rich flavour of blackberries, plum and blueberries all mixed together with a slight hint of tobacco. Perfect for strong dishes like beef or game. Not really for drinking without food. A slightly tanic finish which will diminish with... Read More

Toast, faint white flower nose (not fruity at all). Dark purple color (color is somwhat misleading suggesting wine is still quite young and powerful). Structured tannin.;Good acidity, but the finish is weak. It is good wine but not great wine. Drink now (Jan, 14 2010) Read More
