  • It's interesting that a few new topics have popped up recently (Experiencing Cabernet Franc for one) and that my wife Sandra just today handed me an article by Dave McIntyre she cut out of a Washington Post newspaper dated 25 March 2015.  I'm starting this new topic based on this article "The wine cost four digits.  And the taste?" regarding the... • Man's best friend is a logical pairing for man's best drink. This past week reporter Lauren Eads, a reporter for European industry publication The Drinks Business, published a list of the top ten winery dogs which included pooches – and two donkeys to boot – from three different countries. “Wherever wine is made, it's likely that canine companio... • Again, v v, an excellent report.  I think this is the best wine country ...  My experience is from Chateau Chevalier, Keenan, Smith-Madrone and Terra Valentine.  However, I do have a Spring Mountain Vineyards Cab in my inventory, and, based on your report, I will look forward to it.  FWIW, I' think that Chaeau Chevalier is a second label of th... • We're doing a long weekend in Russian River and Napa this weekend. Flew into San Francisco yesterday with no problems. Friend picked us up at the airport, definitely beats the heck out of fighting the huge crowd at the rental car counters. Why don't they have a contiguous highway from the airport to hwy 101.So what's the first thing to do in win... Read More

  • Some Bordeauxish options:La Parde de Haut-Bailly is about $20 in France, less in Switzerland (!), more in the States. 2nd wine of the Chateau, which has improved quite a bit in recent years.Chateux Teyssier (St. Emilion), Olivier (Pessac-Leognan) and Potensac (Medoc) can still be found under $30, if not $20 anymore. Oliver's white is also excell... Read More

  • I love the Ridge labels.  They are the most informative labels ... The ... The ones I've had--from Chateau Chevalier, Keenan (a lot), Pride, Smith-Madrone, and Terra Valentine--have ranged from good to outstanding.  I even like Spring Mountain Merlots.  Red wines from Spring Mountain are very age-worthy and they are very tannic.  If tannin put... • Just finished tasting Ballabourneen The Stuart 2013 Chardonnay (Australian Wine Selectors Hunter Valley Series January 2014 dozen), bottled under screwcap. Supposed to have a "round and subtle biscuity finish" Well the bottle I tasted was way to subtle for me I'm afraid! I think it is due to last week's tasting of the Tapanappa  2008 Tiers Picca... • Chateau Chevalier Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District 2007

"Thick-looking" purple in the glass. Somewhat volatile nose, also some woody, olivy nose things. Initial palate shows more fruit--blackberry, cassis--than most Spring Mountain Cabernets. Also, not as much tannin as other Spring Mountain examples I have tried. Very nice tartness from acid makes this an easy drinker--not as big as most Napa Ca... Read More

  • I’m so glad I found this tasting happening at my work's social clubhouse because my intended attendance at the trade tasting didn’t eventuate. I’m gutted that I missed out on the chance to taste the 2001 Cuvee Madame. I’ll have to dig deep into the pockets for a glass now, thank goodness for tax returns time! I had previously provided an introdu... Read More
