Château Certan de May on Snooth

  • As you can read HERE, I was quite a big fan of most 2012 barrel samples from Moueix on the Right Bank in Bordeaux. 2012 is generally not an en primeur purchase, but some wines seem worth the ticket. For example, Chateau Trotanoy, one of the wines of the vintage - correctly scored by the still Almighty One, Bob Parker - was almost gone before any... Read More

  • Château Certan de May Red Bordeaux Blend Pomerol 2008

    Snoothrank:

Perfumed on the nose with a strong pine resin note over rich, ripe blueberry fruit. In the mouth this is soft and dry with black cherry fruit thats wrapped in a clumsy, chunky mouthfeel. The fruit turns a bit muddied and indistinct on the finish. 84pts Read More

  • A couple of news items I was pondering today.First, Robert Parker came out with his ratings for the 2009 Bordeaux vintage. Ever the masochist, I decided to go look at some prices in the marketplace after the ratings were released. Some samplings:2009 Chatau Latour                        100 points                  $21,500 a case2009 Chateau Marg... Read More

  • Sadly I did Not. I had a busy weekend that involved wine, but sadly that was mostly inventorying, packing, and moving wine around the state of NY! Got about a dozen cases moved closer to home, so now I'm pretty well set for the next few months of drinking! Next bottle up looks like it might very well be 1987 Dunn Napa Valley. Funny how Dunn was ... Read More

  •  OK, add together Parker's influence over the past decade or two, Chinese money over the past few years, and a little bit of marketing acumen by LVMH, the Bordelaise and even the odd Southern Californian. What results? Hopefully a bubble in prices that can't continue indefinitely, after an event like the likely Chinese bubble burst within a coup... Read More

  • Had one of those once in a lifetime days betting the ponies today.  With the winnings, i'm probably going to be budgeting up to $1500.00 on some more expensive wines I haven't been able to afford in the $80-$200 range.  Any suggestions?  I favor a right-bank bordeaux style for reds but also enjoy a medium bodied cabernet style, along with rhone ...
