Château Carignan is located at Carignan de Bordeaux, 10km to the east of Bordeaux. The estate lies over 150 hectares, 65 of which are planted with vines. The vines lie on south facing clayey-limestone hillsides covered with stony gravel. The dominant grape variety, as for the other right bank Appellations (Saint Emilion and Pomerol), is Merlot. This variety is in its element on the clayey limestone hillsides and offers supple, well-rounded and highly fruity wines. The grapes for the Château Carignan wines are hand harvested, machine harvesting is used for the other wines. Maturing is in 100% new oak casks for the Château Carignan Prima and in one or maximum two wine casks for the Château Carignan. The entire production is estate bottled. – Description from HeatherV

  • I generally avoid wine clubs of any sort, even at my favorite wineries--I'm too promiscuous to sign up to drink 12 or 24 botles of someone's wine in a year--but I am a member of Mauritson's Rockpile list, because there's no longer any way to get the Cemetery Zinfandel and good luck getting any of the others, either.  Since I have in-laws up that... • Sadly I did Not. I had a busy weekend that involved wine, but sadly that was mostly inventorying, packing, and moving wine around the state of NY! Got about a dozen cases moved closer to home, so now I'm pretty well set for the next few months of drinking! Next bottle up looks like it might very well be 1987 Dunn Napa Valley. Funny how Dunn was ... Read More

Casa Nuestra continues to produce well made, small production, experimental releases of French and Spanish varietals. This is one of my favorites. • Château Coussin la Croix du Prieur Rose 2010

Cinsault (practicing organic) - Funky on the nose with earthy, spicy berry notes framed with spicy herb and ivy. Bright and light in the mouth with a juicy core of acid wrapped in a gentle blanket of wild strawberry fruits that yields to a moderate long melon ring and herb. This is delicious and so well balanced. A lovely rose with a building ... Read More
