Château Brown, as its name suggests, bears testimony to the close links that have always existed between the Bordeaux region and the Anglo-Saxons. Founded in the late Middle Ages when Aquitaine belonged to England, Château Brown owes its name to the wealthy Scottish wine trader John Lewis Brown, who settled in Bordeaux in the late 18th century. An enthusiast of wines and art, this epicurean passed on not only his name but also his passions to his grandson, the animal painter John Lewis Brown. – Description from Kursulla

  • Château Cantenac Brown Margaux Grand Cru Classé 2000

    Snoothrank:

One of my all time favourites. Full bodied, thick on tannin, black currant, blackberries, very fruity and firm on palate with a smoky flavour, balanced acidity. Definitely a strong character. Read More

  • I am hosting a Schreiner's Winers tasting Saturday and we're covering zins.  I was wondering what some Snooth favorites are.  I am looking to get 6-9 bottles from various areas and price ranges.  I already have a 2007 Plungerhead.  I was thinking something from Ridge?  Robert Biale?  Renwood, Ravenswood or Cosentino.  Thoughts? • I've gotten a lot of flack for some of my opinions about these 2007 Bordeaux. While there certainly are many poor 2007s, the vintage is not a complete wash-out. It really depends a bit on what a person is looking for. 2007 Bordeaux, at their worst, exhibit bitter unripe tannins and dominant, green vegetal flavors, but is there more to this vinta... I figured that there would be enough NYers and/or transients on the board to make this a worthwhile post.I’m the last guy to champion my local retailers. Why, you ask? Because they stink…well, that’s not fair- they’re dirty and unimaginative an... Read More

  • Château Cantenac Brown Red Bordeaux Blend Margaux 2007

    Snoothrank:

Very herbaceous nose, slightly oaky yet rather classic in a lean style, floral and berries with freshly crushed fruit notes soft entry, rich and velvety feel, perhaps a bit too extracted, has a bit too much tannin, dark coffee flavors, a bit middy on the mid-palate, woody finish (85-86) Read More

  • Château Brown Red Bordeaux Blend Pessac-Léognan 1996

    Snoothrank:

Earthy nose of dried red fruits, sweet tobacco, leather, leaves and some fruit. Aggressive swirling produced more prominent ripe fruit tones. Palate is dusty and mineral framed. Stony. Red fruit is there with some lovely bright strawberry tones. Some tobacco, earth and hints of red pepper. It ends on a sweet, herbaceous-laced bright red fr... Read More
