This estate was founded when a Jean-Baptiste Braneyre bought part of the neighbouring Chateau Beychevelle estate in 1680. The Duluc name was added when his daughter Marie married a Pierre de Luc and the Ducru name when a Gustave Ducru inherited the estate in 1875.The actual chateau was constructed in 1824.It became a fourth growth in the famous 1855 classification. It was bought by businessman Patrick Maroteaux in 1988 and he has invested a great deal of time and money on the estate and the chateau. There are vineyards spread across the appellation now totaling 60 hectares planted with 70% cabernet sauvignon,22% merlot,4% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. The average vine age is 35 years.There is a second wine called Duluc de Branaire-Ducru and there are also 3.5 hectares in the Haut-Medoc appellation and the wine from them is called Haut-Medoc de Branaire-Ducru
