Château Bolaire, built in 1860, is located at the “end of the island" of Macau en Médoc. This land, nowadays connected to the peninsula “médulienne”, was in the past an island of the Garonne. Benefiting from conditions favourable with the vine growing (proximity of the river, natural drainage), this terroir has a distinctive wine history: 16th and the beginning of the 17th century represent the golden age of these vineyards. From this glorious period, the vineyard has evolved, but the tradition remains quite present: the grape variety Petit Verdot accounts for 39% of the planted grape varieties. Château Bolaire belongs to Vincent Mulliez today, also owner of Château Belle-Vue and Château de Gironville, in the Haut-Médoc appellation. – Description from agnesgironville

Château Bolaire on Snooth

  • Chateau Bolaire Bordeaux Superieur 2010

    Snoothrank:

A nice Damson Fruit (dark plum) greets the nose on this edition of the well-respected Chateau. The wine is slightly less opaque than 2009, but the palate still meets plenty of tannin and Petit Verdot notes (leather especially) but tempered with lots of black and red fruit such as cherry and blackberry. Some density is lacking despite the tannin ... Read More

  • Bolaire Bordeaux Superior 2009

    Snoothrank:

This rich, deep, deep red wine exudes cigar, cranberry and a touch of cedar. Very smooth - even creamy - on entry with silky tannin that requires no further aging to soften. Finish is pleasant and medium with decent grip. Superb value for current drinking through 2015. Gobs of Petit Verdot in this baby; Oz fans take note. 90 points. Read More

  • Hello all,I'm your typical wine novice from the US and I absolutely LOVE wine, and now I am trying to venture in to the world of French wine, especially reds. Honestly, it intimidates me as the prices for Bordeaux's are crazy so I'm much less likely to test out many of them.I have been to many French restaurants and usually find pretty good wine... • Chateau Bolaire Bordeaux Superieur 2007

    Snoothrank:

A very slightly watery rim, but with a dark, inviting - almost black robe. Bouquet of plum-infused coffee with just a touch of alder smoke. Very new world and bold, a partial result, no doubt, of the large Petit Verdot contribution. Hitting above its weight and recommended. Drink now through 2011. Read More
