Charles Shaw Winery

NAPA, CA View map

The Charles Shaw label is best known for producing wines of “extreme value.” These became popular when marketed exclusively out of Trader Joe’s grocery chain for $1.99, known commonly as “Two Buck Chuck.” It is owned by the Bronco Wine Company out of Ceres, California. The wines are produced from the usual suspect grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Zinfandel (as White Zinfandel “blush” wine). The Valdiguie style is produced to mimic Beaujolais Nouveau wines, and Pinot Grigio in limited quantities.

  • Not that I would ever eschew use of a corkscrew, but is continued bottling in glass environmentally sustainable? I assume you've considered other packaging...? I'd certainly buy in a box, if available.

  • I've been a regular consumer of Charles Shaw's Wines. I understand that United Airlines prior to their bankruptcy, used only this product for all their flights. After financial difficulties, they were unable to continue at that time to purchase these wines. This is when the Charles Shaw company became associated with Trader Joe's, selling the p...

  • I buy your wine every month and for the first time when I pulled the black wrapper off there was a wet spot on top of the cork. I tried to pull the cork but it broke and when I smelled the cork and wine it had turned. Very disappointed to miss out on my favorite wine. This bottle had a code on the bottom 5505 and under that it had 14. Your win...

  • I do like your wine, but, getting the cork out hard, and when you do, can not put the cork back in, this has happened in the past and I forgot, bought today, got cork out, but can not remove cork, from my cork screw, nor put back into bottle.

  • Charles Shaw Pinot Grigio California 2010

The Pinot Grigio is an excellent wine. My only recommendation is that do not use the artificial cork. It is very difficult to open. Use instead Screw Cap. (Matanza Winery is using it!) Easier to open and less expensive for you. You should consider also to 1.5 liter bottles. Andre, San Rafael, CA Read More

  • Charles Shaw Red Blend California Nouveau 2013

First, it is a $3 wine. It's a bit thin and lacks complexity. On the other hand, it has a bit of fruitiness and has no offensive characteristics. Rating takes a bit of a boost based on price. Read More
