  • Wow, a lot of reports on lots of great wines and great food.  Thank you to all the reporters. We grilled a chicken and assorted vegies, last night, and had Lewis Chardonnay.  The chicken and the vegies were great.  The wine was good, but not great.  OT has ruined me with Ceritas Chardonnay.Darren, do black widow spiders live in Canada?  I may be... • Ceritas Elliott Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Very interesting translucent, slightly murky, ruby colorpretty much what I expect from PN. Intriguing, somewhat unctuous nose. Very light on the palate. Very moderate fruitmaybe, a faint strawberry, but, then, a stiff acid hit almost makes me think lemon. A refreshing red wine that might be winner winner with a grilled/roasted Cornish Game H... • Yes, Al, I'd visited your site just before I composed the above (and I should mention that I get a kick out of your writing style). I have to say I had never heard of "case modding."  Again, I'm an old guy. So,cut me a break.  I do know how to check Wikipedia for things I've never heard of.  Hmmm.  I'll be darned.  Sounds something like work.  I... Read More

  • Ceritas Pinnacle Vineyard Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains 2012

Fairly big nose that leads with melon, but also shows some vanilla/oak. Initial mouth impression is that buttery oak, but it is wiped away, quickly, by refreshing acid. Here we get stone fruit, green apple, and a touch of lemon. A pretty unusual Chardonnay in my view. Even subsequent tastes start with the butter/oak heaviness sensation, but ... Read More

  • Just got home after having dinner following the tasting. Met up with Mr and Mrs eMark who were in town for the NASCAR race at Sears Point over the weekend. Foxall was a gametime scratch due to a nagging injury so my better half stepped in in his place. Mrs eMark was happy to have another woman to chat with. My overall take was it was OK. There w... • Just got this from Adam Lee. Meeting up with eMark and Foxall Monday for dinner. Should we change venues and do this? Not at all familiar with what Virginia has to offer. Hey All, Not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but wanted to invite all of you in the Santa Rosa area to a tasting of Virginia wines that we are hosting next Monda... • Darren/Al, OT is wired into some excellent wines.  I would, occasionally stumble into one or two of them in certain wine stores down here in Southern California, but that was the exception, not the rule.  OT encouraged me to get onto the mailing list of some of these wineries.  So, I went to the web sites for several of them--e.g., Bedrock, Rhys... • I was wondering what sort of new topic I could start that would pair nicely with my previous posting 'Weekday Wines'; well here it is - Weekend Wines.  Sometimes I just have to stop and take a minute to pat myself on the back for my quick wit but alas, this isn't one of those times.  Anyway, why not talk about wines we enjoy on weekends?  These ... • $50 was always my upper bound on Chardonnay, but once I started buying Ceritas, that was exceeded.  So, now, I guess, my upper bound is $60--at least until I get the next solicitation from Ceritas. Read More

  • What fun, Al.  You picked up some terrific wines, there.  Great to hear that the LS pairs well with Subway.  Pretty soon we'll have you drinking Outthere's and Foxall's favorites from wineries like Bedrock, Bucklin and Mauritson.  I have never had the 3 Valleys, but I have seen comments here on the Snooth Forum that it is excellent.  FYI, Mataro...
