Castillo de Monseran

Castillo de Monseran is a value-driven wine brand out of Cariñena, Spain. The label depicts a Medieval castle, which is not an uncommon site in this historic region. Their wines focus on the two main grapes of the area, Garnacha for reds and Viura for whites. The Garnacha releases are available as an entry level red, as well as an “old vines” release (meaning the grapes are sourced from vines which can be as old as a century or more in that region), which tend to yield more concentrated and flavorful fruit.

This is a wonderful value red that is red with purple hues upon the look and has great clarity! Fruit forward aromas of cherry, strawberry, and blackberry/blueberry warmth, along with black soil and some spice in the background. Flavors follow the aromas nicely and this is very juicy! The ripe berry character comes through very well and provi... Read More

  • Castillo de Monseran Old Vines Garnacha 2010

The nose was ripe, yet characterful, showing dark fruit, ripe strawberry, mint, and a hint of oak. On the palate, it was rich and deeply rooted in brambly, earthy fruit with blackberry, currant, hints of stem and minerals. The texture was full yet grainy with tannin that tugged at your already black-fruit saturated palate. A solid vein of acidit... Read More

This wine has 14.5% alcohol by volume and the bottle is sealed with a natural cork. The wine is a deep ruby red color. The appealing nose has cherries, white pepper, vanilla, wild flowers, baking spices and a touch of dark chocolate. This has medium body with moderate tannins and good acidity. Spicy cherries and white pepper pop out first on ... Read More
