Castillo de Monseran is a value-driven wine brand out of Cariñena, Spain. The label depicts a Medieval castle, which is not an uncommon site in this historic region. Their wines focus on the two man grapes of the area, Garnacha for reds and Viura for whites. The Garnacha releases are available at an entry level red as well as an “old vines” release (meaning the grapes are sourced from vines which can be as old as a century or more in that region), which tend to yield more concentrated and flavorful fruit.

  • San Valero Castillo de Monseran Garnacha 50 Year Old Vines 2009

    Snoothrank:

Very spicy on the nose and with hint of leather and suggestions of barnyard framing the core of black cherry fruit with a hint of a peppery top note. Smooth and supple with nice leather and mineral notes early on the palate followed by fresh blackberry and slightly jammy strawberry fruit. this shows a hint of herb and floral spice on the palate,... • Castillo de Monseran Old Vines Garnacha 2010

    Snoothrank:

Low key on the nose, but with a very attractive array of strawberry/rhubarb, ginseng, juniper and floral tones, with a hint of dried bitter orange zest. A bit thick up front and low in acid, but rather mouth-filling. This delivers plenty of lightly dried strawberry fruit with hints of spice and earth in a nice, medium-bodied style that doesnt fe...
