Castello di Monsanto on Snooth

  • Hi allJust signed up and looking forward to learning about wines. I favour red over white but like both. So far my favs tend to be Italian chianti but I do really the Californian Beringer cabernets. I unfortunately cannot afford to spend a big lot on purchases and tend to stick to those priced from $20 to $30 Canadian. Although Canadian, I haven... Read More

  • Chianti Classico Riserva Monsanto 2009

    Snoothrank:

The nose was classic Monsanto Chianti, showing ripe strawberry, with hints of plum, barnyard, animal musk and a whiff chalky mineral. On the palate, it was silky with great balanced acidity lending juicy tones as concentrated red fruits and dried spices seduced the senses. The finish showed hints of refined tannin with tart fruit lingering thr... Read More

  • Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva Premier 5 2008

    Snoothrank:

D/H 2013-2023-The 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva is a very pretty, centered wine. Dark cherries, plums, spices, menthol, cedar, game and tobacco are some of the notes that emerge from the glass. The 2008 is an understated Riserva that impresses for its length, focus and balance. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023.Score: 92. Antonio Galloni, August 2... Read More

  • Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva Cinquecentenario 2008

    Snoothrank:

The nose was restrained and youthful showing cool red berry fruits, plum, woodsy notes and dusty spice. On the palate, I found tart red fruits and inner floral notes with a lean, medium body. Forget this bottle in the cellar for many years, and it should reward patience; otherwise decant and be prepared to wait. Read More

  • Chianti Classico Riserva Monsanto 2009

    Snoothrank:

The nose showed strawberry, floral stems, mint and dried cinnamon. On the palate, it was youthfully lean yet balanced, showing red berries and inner floral notes that lasted through the finish. The 2009 may need more time before it blossoms, and Ill be happy to put some away to wait and see. Read More

  • Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva Premier 5 2008

    Snoothrank:

The wine itself has a lovely deep ruby color in the glass and presents a nose of leather, licorice and some floral notes that almost feel chewy as you breath them in. The taste is somewhat fruit forward, with flavors or ripe plum and tart cherry at the front end, transitioning to some wonderful earthy, spicy notes midpalate. The well structure... Read More

  • Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva Premier 5 2008

    Snoothrank:

91 Points: Starts off with roasted (not stewed) black cherry, a coffee undertone, and savory dried herbs. On the palate there is dried black cherry, a little powdered cocoa on the mid palate, moderate acidity, and fine tannins. Finishes very nicely with a pleasant grip, lingering dried herbs, tobacco, and that subtle dusty cocoa note, all support... Read More
