  • Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva 2012

    Snoothrank:

Dulled initial hit of blackberry, but then showing its bit of extra maturity. So, fruit does not overwhelm. Surprisingly tannic for a Chianti. Strong acid presence. I would expect from any Chianti, but this one is, like the fruit, not in your face. Not a great wine, but for under $20, a darned good one. Read More

  • Castello di Monsanto Chianti Colli Senesi Monrosso 2013

    Snoothrank:

1st time for trying this offering of Monsanto chiantis. Generous fruit up front with a slight spice and zest note on the finish. Soft chewy tannins supported by good acidity give this a medium length finish. Great food wine. Drink now - Paul 88 poinys Read More

  • Okay, if the Italian is okay, try these:  Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva.  (Riserva! under $20!  Ageable!)  Molino di Grace Chianti.  Usually around $16 but it has been creeping up as the reputation spreads.  English businessman bought underperforming vineyard and winery and did great stuff without charging extortionate prices.  H... • Hi everybody I'm a small store owner at the edge of the rust belt, my customers rarely spend over $20 for a bottle, and I am looking to improve my selection a bit beyond what is here now. If you have a minute to help a guy out let me know what you think are the best wines that usually sell for $20 or less. Thanks ! Read More

  • Had some neighbors over Friday for an Italian themed potluck. Good thing I have neighbors who can cook and who appreciate my wine...makes for a nice group effort. Not much time to go over everything in detail, but I continue to enjoy 2011 Barbera d'Alba, and also the 2011 Tommasi Soave that I picked up last minute was a real surprise. I'll be buy... Read More

  • Castello di Monsanto 'Riserva' Chianti Classico 2010

    Snoothrank:

I've had previous vintages of Monsanto Riserva, but I don't think this one matches those. To me the wine does not show the fruity brightness or the tart refreshness that I seek. It's not a bad wine. but I'll pass on future bottles and, maybe, try again when another vintage is available. Read More
