Castello di Monsanto on Snooth

  • Castello di Monsanto Sangiovese Blend Toscana IGT Tinscvil 1997

    Snoothrank:

This wine showed a mix of blue and black fruit on the nose with hints of beefy broth. On the palate, I found sour cherries and bitters leading to a short tart finish. Read More

  • Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva 1980

    Snoothrank:

The nose of this wine showed undergrowth and herbs with dusty dark fruit and a bit of old parchment paper. On the palate, I found tart yet delicate raspberry fruit, which led to a tannic anise finish that was a bit marred by acidity. Read More

  • Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva 1977

    Snoothrank:

The 1977 Monsanto, Il Poggio showed vibrant and fresh aromas reminding my of autumn with dried cherry, allspice and baking pie crust. On the palate, I found sweet cherry tobacco and cedar on a balanced and delicate frame. The finish was medium long with red fruit and hint of copper penny. An amazing bottle of wine. Read More

  • Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva 1999

    Snoothrank:

A perfect example of a Sangiovese entering maturity. The color was red heading toward burnt orange. On the nose is a bouquet of dried flowers and potpourri, with undergrowth and tar, but all the while showing plum fruit and caramel. Take a sip and you find raspberry fruit, flower petals, rosemary and a hint of aged oak. The palate was silky sm... Read More

  • Chianti Monsanto Italy 2006

    Snoothrank:

This bottle is a great example of how time, exposed to air, can affect a wine. When first opened it showed sour berries, leather, fall leaves and a hint of confectioners sugar on the nose. However, after two hours, you find fig and ripe berries with cedar and undergrowth. Black cherries and wild berries fill your palate. Then comes rosemary an... Read More
