Thirty years ago, a successful industrialist decided to devote himself to his great passion: wine-growing. And so began a fascinating and complex story that culminated in the acquisition and valorization of three very important estates in Tuscany. The purchase and restoration of an historic monastery (dating from 1000) at Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the heart of the Siena Chianti Classico area, saw the creation of a prestigious agricultural and residential complex, the present-day Castello di Monastero. Montalcino, the homeland of one of the most famous wines in the world, saw the acquisition and renovation of the Coldisole estate joined. Lastly, the foundation of Poggio alle Sughere in the Tuscan Maremma area. Production philosophy. Attention focuses on territory and grapes: the wines must be an expression of these two components and highlight there best aspects through attentive management of the vineyards, harvest, vinification and ageing. – Description from iskicm

  • Castello Monastrsangiove 2006

I purchased the Castello di Monastero Chianti Classico 2006 for $14 on the basis of the high rating (WS 91pts). Frankly I don't believe this is the same wine that was judged by WS. The bottle I received had no depth, complexity or character and was overwhelmingly astringent. I tried some extended aeration that did nothing to help the sad wine ... Read More

  • Coenobium Vino de Tavola 2007

Enjoying this wine for a second time... Great provenance, good acid balance, a touch of tannin from the hand pressed stems and earthy notes lent itself well to our dish of Italian pasta, olive oil, spinach, mushrooms, pine nuts and Parmesan! Read More

  • Coenobium "Rusticum" 2007

Very big VA right off the bat tbut that is followed by herbs, chalk, leather, roasted chestnut, salty prosciutto tones all over a lovely balsamic base. Bright and crisp in the mouth with nice sprightly tannins up front that are quickly subsumed by the candied, burnt orange rind fruit and biting mineral tones that linger on the exceptionally long... • Coenobium Vino de Tavola 2007

Earthy and lightly spicy on the nose with hints of brown sugar, bay leaf, eucalyptus, cotton bandage and a big chicken base note that builds in the glass. Sweet peach and pear fruits on the palate with light spice tones and a top note of herbs linger on the long finish. 89pts Read More
