  • Yesterday we braved 104° temperatures in the Sonoma Valley to tour the iconic Pagani Ranch in Kenwood followed by dinner and some amazing wines. More in my next post. Read More

  • Carlisle Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2015

Lots of blue makes the color more purple than red. Interesting. This one is a mouthful. Very chewy, almost, not quite, jammy on the tongue. Strong tannin. Im pretty sure this not my favorite DCV Zin. Its not bad, but it just seems overripe, to me. Read More

  • This 2015 Carlisle Syrah that is right around the $20 mark and always leaves a smile on our faces. It's young therefore we gave it an hour decant. Blackfruit forward, with good acidity, medium finish. Excellent QPR and mid week wine.  Read More

  • Sometimes we get used to paying upwards of $100 for a nice bottle of wine from the wine shop.  Those are the 'good days' that we want to remember, but soon you notice your bank account is dropping faster than Trumps approval rating, so you start looking for more value-oriented wines that are tasty in their own right. This topic is all about value... • EM & OT-thanks for the notes on the Carlisle and Bedrock Syrahs. I'm going to check in on my 14's soon. We had another 2008 Caravina by Seavey. I just can't keep my hands off them. Drinking beautifully now. Had the second glass with some baby back ribs which took it from great to awesome. Another great day on the west coast of Florida.   Read More

  • Carlisle Sonoma County Syrah 2015

Dark purple in the glass. Fairly big introduction of dark fruit on entry. A very rich, mouth-filling wine. Savory and meaty mid-palate. Stiff tannin. Good acid. Surprisingly, nice and easy on the back of the throat. It may have many years in it, but drinking it now is a lot of fun. Read More

  • OK, that Carlisle OVZ, last night, really inspired me.  So, tonight it is a Bedrock OVZ. Yes, I agree.  This will not be an apples-to-apples comparison.  This on is vintage 2015, and the Carlisle was 2014.  The Carlisle was "Russian River Valley," and this one is "California."Other than that, they are both labeled "Zinfandel."  So, according to ...
