Welcome to Carlisle Winery & Vineyards! We are a small Sonoma County winery specializing in the production of old-vine, vineyard designated zinfandels and red Rhone varieties (syrah, grenache, mourvèdre, and petite sirah). While we like our wines to be bold, rich, and intensely flavored, each reflecting a sense of place, its origins in the vineyard, we also strive to create wines of balance, complexity, and perhaps most importantly, pleasure. – Description from iskicm

  • I've been anxious to try some Windy Oaks NG I'm noticing a lot of people drinking it on Delectable and raving. One of these days!I've been busy the past few weeks helping out at the winery during harvest either on the production side or doing private tastings for Ancillary, Myriad and Carter. It afforded my the opportunity to share in some reall... Read More

  • v v, I've had a few Alcicante Bouschet varietal bottlings.  The last ohe was a relatively low-dollar example from Coppola.  The first ever Alicante Bouschet varietal bottling that I ever had, in fact, the first time I ever heard of the grape, was in 1980-something when Mrs. EMark and I were on a Northern California road trip, and we dropped in a... • Misery loves company.  But it was fitting to go from Dino to the pan-Ital wines of Amador County.  (I've got a theory about how "Italian Americans" came to be viewed as folks you want to socialize with instead of suspicious foreigners with individual regional identities, and Dino fits into it.)OT, the Turley room was still showing on the map as ... • "When the moon hits your eye/like a big pizza pie/that's amore."As we ate our breakfast on Sunday morning at the Imperial Hotel in Amador City, the soundtrack subtly changed.  Last night at dinner and halfway through breakfast, the soundtrack was from the same era, but Sam Cooke sent us, and Ray Charles warned us about women.  This morning, with... Was a bit anxious about this one since it was a gift from a neighbor/friend and storage was questionable. Initial taste on opening was that this was a bit "hot", which at 15.8% abv wasn't unexpected. Visual inspection showed only slight bricking on the rim with a nice ruby core. On the nose is more heat and some smoke and dry earth. After 1-2 ho... Read More

  • Thought I'd start a topic to see what "different" wines people are drinking. I've been on a hunt to find wines made from lesser known grapes or from unusual areas. Here's one of each. This is a rose made from Cinsault, not too unusual right? Well this is from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. Either they don't make very good wine in Lebanon or this bo... Read More

  • As you may know, Zinfandel is my favorite American grape variety. The wines produced tend to span a wide range of fascinating styles and can reveal fabulous terroir. I belong to a grand total of three winery lists, two of which are primarily for Zinfandel. From two of the the greatest producers of not only Zinfandel, but the great field blends t... Read More

My 8th place wine and the groups tied for 5th Creamy oak and cedary fruit greets the nose followed by a fairly complex and elegant array of wild red berry and red currant fruit and a hint of beefiness. Light, with a gentle roundness on the palate, this is fairly elegant with lots of raspberry fruit supported by stiff little tannins and great aci... Read More
