Read moreDeep, jammy, vanilla, smoky, peppery jerky, spicy boysenberry fruit, really white peppery and dried meaty with a hint of milk chocolate. Packed with fruit, fairly seamless in the mouth with a wonderful intensity and purity to the dark berry fruit tones. The tannins and acid are there but it’s frankly hard to judge either since they are so well integrated and balanced. The fruit is dark, rich and surprisingly fresh. The tannin and red cherry fruit tones slowly ooze out, and a nice vanillin top note emerges in the glass. The finish is long and laced with minerals, olive brine and tar. This needs a bit more time, say another 2 years but it verging on excellent already 90pts    (hide)

  Spicy, slightly hot, peppered nose. Bright, red, juicy, spicy, leader, chocolate and coffee. All of the players in a delicious Syrah are right there. It's deep, dark, with blackberry for miles.

  Carlisle Syrah Papa's Block 2007

  Snoothrank:

  The best word I can come up with this is "prodigious." It's a big, burly syrah with plenty of heft and alcohol. Lots of deep, rich, dark fruits. Enjoyed it, but also looking forward to what it will have to offer in the coming years.

In the mouth this is smaller that one might expect but superbly polished and with great acidity and supple tannins giving it volume without weight. The bright flavors of black raspberry are edged in subtle chocolate, earth and tobacco tones but never interfere with the purity of the fruit expression.
