All Carabella wines are sourced from our 58 acre site in Oregon's Chehalem Mountains. We produce estate pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot gris. The vines are planted to a southeast slope with an altitude of 500 to 600 feet. Gravelly volcanic soils--Nekia, Saum and Jory--have proven perfect for dry-farming our low-yielding vines. We aim for complexity by using blending components from the many distinctly different blocks within the site. There are seven different pinot noir clones, two blocks of Dijon 76 chardonnay and two different pinot gris clones. All wines from the Carabella label are made by winemaker Mike Hallock. Other fine wineries in the North Willamette Valley purchase Carabella fruit as well.

  • Carabella Dijon 76 Chardonnay 2010

As many of my regular readers know, I am a huge fan of Oregon Chardonnay and a firm believer that it should be considered one of our signature grapes - right alongside Pinot Noir. Aromas of pears, honeysuckle, Meyer lemons and a hint of wet stone enter onto the palate with a super-pleasing citrus-zest. Green apple, clove and a tiny hint of van... Read More

  • Carabella Pinot Noir Rosé 2012

This had to be one of the most beautifully hued Rosés I have ever seen. Complex floral, strawberry and Bing cherry aromas and flavors were highlighted by alluring spices that flowed in silky waves from the front of the palate to the back. Mid palate bright acidity rounded out the fruit, making it smooth, refreshing, extremely well balanced and... Read More

  • It’s the holiday season and everyone is recommending Pinot Noir again. What is it with folks, do they just like to take the path of least resistance? Will there come a day when Pinot is not the end all of holiday wine recommendations? Probably not. Lambrusco and Blaufrankisch have a whole set of issues that will prevent them from ever garnering ... Read More

  • Rex Hill Pinot Noir Oregon Carabella Vineyard 2010

Mineral and rusty notes greet the nose followed by gently spicy nettle notes and fine raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, all topped with a hint of woodsmoke. This enters the mouth with a fine combination of elegant richness and vibrancy. The fruit is shaded towards the black end of the spectrum; lightly black cherry and black raspberry are und... • Plowbuster Pinot Noir 2010

Plow's been in the shed for 3 years, but it's ready to get busted...Again! Black fruit and licorice aromas, wood-driven notes, not too much vanilla. Nice punch of acidity on the body w/ red fruit and stone fruit. Respect. Read More

  • Blakeslee Vineyard Estate Chardonnay Chehalem Mountains Carabella Vineyard 2009

Wonderful nose, layered and balanced with bright tropical fruits, cream and just wisps of oak. It's remarkable for the price point. Burgundian in style with great acid balance. It's got a creaminess without being buttery or overly fat. Wonderful bright fruit and just the right amount of oak. Good weight and well suited for food or on its ow... Read More
