Caparone Winery has specialized in rich, complex red wines, made using traditional minimalist techniques and sold at fair prices. Located northwest of Paso Robles, California, we are one of the oldest small, artisan wineries in the region. We strive to make interesting red wines with good varietal character, intensity and longevity – wines that complement fine food. We’ve been particularly interested in the three great Italian red varietals: Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Aglianico. Through the years, we have been dedicated to only the finest techniques of vinification and viticulture, and to giving excellent value to our customers. We invite you to learn more about us in these pages. – Description from Kursulla

  • Fox, we are having guests, tonight, and I was thinking of offering that Brooks.  It will be a game time decision. Al, I enjoy all Keenan wines, and, in fact, as Fox has suggested, the Syrah is really not my favorite.  He is right about their Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.  They actually have two Merlot bottlings--Napa Valley and Carneros.  I pre... • Caparone Nebbiolo Paso Robles Estate Grown 2008

Very distressing colors in the glass--almost an amber color and fairly murky. That would substantiate the "Unfined and Unfiltered" claim on the label. Nose is fruity with some astringency. On the palate it is quite light for a red wine. Significant fruit with the associated "sweet" sensation. Characteristic raisin hints that I seem to alway... Read More

  • Caparone Zinfandel Paso Robles 2005

You can spot the "Unfined and Unfiltered" in the glass without having to read the label. The wine has a murkiness about it, although, if you can get over that, it is a terrific purpley color. On the nose it is "sour." Very nice on the palate. Medium-bodied. Lots of fruit flavors--blackberry, plum/prune--without overriding "sweetness." So... Read More

  • Caparone Aglianico Paso Robles 2009

Very earthy nose. Initial palate sensation shows same earthiness, but then some raisiny fruit. I beliefe that this is the first Aglianico I have ever tried, This is a very rustic wine not made for contemporary tastes. It you are looking for big fruit, this is not it. However, I like it. One sip seems to ask for another. I'd like to see som... Read More
