Cantina Zaccagnini

Cantina Zaccagnini is a winery located in Abruzzo, Italy. The winery was established in the late 1970s by Marcello Zaccagnini, who had previously worked as a farmer in his father’s vineyards, whose fruit was sourced by other winemakers. When the market for those grapes died out, he decided to produce wine himself, with his cousin Concezio as the winemaker, eventually building a successful family business. The value-driven wines are produced with a signature grapevine twig wrap, which has been a key point in its successful brand recognition among consumers. The wines are produced as still reds, whites and that regional Abruzzo rosé specialty, Cerasuolo.

  • So, I finally re-introduced myself to Zinfandel.  I bought a half bottle of Seghesio Sonoma '12.  I decantered it for 1 hour and ate it with spaghetti w/tomato-basil sauce.  The wine was dominated by the alcohol -- 14.8% -- and while I tasted black fruit and a very interesting roasted sage note on the mid-palate, the alcohol drive of the wine ma... Snoothrank:

Jammy black berry fruits and a little forest floor greet the nose followed by hints of peppery beef jerky and dried cranberries. Polished in the mouth, this lacks a bit of oomph when it comes to the nice if subtle array of wild berry and slightly balsamic flavors. The acid is well covered and the tannins sufficiently sweet and supporting the mod... Read More
