Our estate vineyard is located in Washington State's preeminent wine region, the Columbia Valley. We produce wines with intense flavors by growing our grapes in a unique location with distinctive soils and microclimate. In 1989, a group of farmers started planting winegrapes on Canoe Ridge, which up to that time had been home to only badgers and sagebrush. Canoe Ridge Vineyard's original 101 acres of plantings were completed and additional acres were developed. A total of 143 acres are now in full production. Our estate vineyard overlooks the vast Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge, which encompasses 29,370 acres of marshes, sloughs, open water and cropland. This is a popular nesting area for Great Basin Canadian geese, several species of ducks and other marsh and water birds. Unique location Canoe Ridge gently slopes five miles toward the east and west from its 910-foot peak. We selected this site for Canoe Ridge Vineyard because of its distinctive microclimate, which is perfect for growing Merlot, Read more »

Canoe Ridge Vineyard on Snooth

  • The Expedition Merlot Canoe Ridge Vineyard 2012

    Snoothrank:

Heat and red cherry aromas are sort of a one-track idea but strong and direct. On the palate there's more going on, with loads of fruit flavors and cola. Strident red fruit flavors are powerful and precede a candied finish. If you are looking for an example of a dry wine that carries itself like a sweet one, look no further. Read More

  • Canoe Ridge Vineyards Expedition Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a deep ruby color in the glass, certainly appropriate for a Cabernet from the Columbia Valley. The nose is quite pleasant with some lovely floral notes atop some rich, ripe fruit notes of plum and red currant and just a bit of smokiness. The taste is really quite nice, very fruit forward, with flavors of ripe raspberry, blackberry ... Read More

  • After a brief introduction to the the state of Washington this past Monday I reported on my  visits to wineries in Walla Walla on Tuesday. Today I am reporting on visits both in Prosser, which lies roughly between Walla Walla and Seattle in the Yakima Valley as well as to wineries located basically within Seattle’s metropolitan footprint. As I’v... Read More

  • Chateau Ste. Michelle Chardonnay Canoe Ridge Estate Vineyard 2012

    Snoothrank:

100% barrel fermented, 50% natural yeats, one third new wood, sends 10 months in oak Fairly oaky on the nose and a bit creamy though nicely floral and fresh with tart apple aromas. Starting off a bit soft and round in the mouth this shows off fine clarity to the fruit, rather pear driven with spicy cider apple notes wrapped in a creamy barre... Read More

I spent a week traveling the region recently and was franklyunsure of how these articles would play out. • Canoe Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain Taylor 2011

    Snoothrank:

Power and complexity on the nose, along with great complexity to the herbal spice, subtle fruit and noticeable backing spice aromas. This is big, rich, and chewy yet soft and supple. A bit low on acid perhaps but with great, transparent red currant and red cherry in a supple style. After an early hint of candied sweetness this turns firm and... Read More

  • Canoe Ridge Cabernet Franc Estate 2011

    Snoothrank:

unlabeled pre-release sampleLots of toasty spice is layered over red raspberry fruit, with fine white pepper, clay, and green peppercorn highlights. Zesty, mineral, and a bit floral on entry this shows off a firm and full texture yet remains transparent with almost sweet raspberry fruit on the palate. Theres a hint of red currant astringency a... • Canoe Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2010

    Snoothrank:

Intensely aromatic with earthy, cedary edged fruit that shows a slightly jammy, licorice framed edge to the core of blackberry and black currant aromas Soft on entry, then turning rather firm and faceted in the mouth and displaying lovely clarity on the palate. While this is just a bit simple, there is good depth to the flavor that is here,... Read More

  • Canoe Ridge Merlot Estate 2010

    Snoothrank:

Tobacco, chocolate covered cherries, cigar box,and a hint of leafiness pop on the nose here. Soft, broad and caressing in the mouth this displays a fine base of acid induced clarity, and shows off soft well managed tannins all supporting impressively pure raspberry red currant fruit. Long, crisp and fairly precise in the mouth, this has an ele... Read More

  • Canoe Ridge Cabernet Reserve Horse Heaven Hills 2010

    Snoothrank:

Pretty big on the nose and rich with black currant, spice, tobacco, burnt sugar, and earth. On the palate this is a bit softer than expected, with rich, lovely red currant fruit, dusty tannins, and leafy edges. Bright and gaining focus in the mouth, exhibiting nice cut and energy, this is so clean, fresh, and juicy with tangy cranberry and rasp... Read More
