Buttonwood farm winery is a small gem set amidst the splendor of Santa Barbara County's Santa Ynez Valley. Our 39-acre vineyard stretches across a sun-drenched mesa on the eastern portion of our 106-acre property. We started planting in 1983 and now have 33,000 vines, small in the world of wine, but huge to us. Buttonwood's varietal mix of sauvignon blanc, semillon, marsanne, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and syrah reflects the preferences of owners Betty Williams and her son-in-law, Bret Davenport, for Bordeaux and Rhone style wines. As we expected, they grow perfectly in our warm, eastern Santa Ynez Valley location. Our winery was completed in time for the crush of 1989. We now produce 8,000 cases of wine a year and quite frankly, have a great time doing it. How could we not given our spectacular surroundings and the congenial winemaking atmosphere of Santa Barbara County? The satisfaction of what we do spills over to our tasting room where laughter and lively conversation abound Read more »

  • Buttonwood Merlot Reserve 2000

    Snoothrank:

An enjoyable Merlot. As others have mentioned, it's more in the French style. Definitely earthy but I'd say that's a good thing. For the price, a very nice wine. One of the bottles I got is for a friend who's a lover of Merlot. I think she'll be pleased as well. Read More

  • Buttonwood Merlot Reserve 2000

    Snoothrank:

Definitely with some clay-ey, earthy bottlestink upon opening but once that blows off the wine reveals lots of tobacco and leather accented aromas with a hint of bouillon over soft, plummy fruit. With air this develops a rather distinctive camphor note. Very broad in the mouth and a bit thin this is still well structured with a nice core of ripe... Read More

    Snoothrank:

This Past December I had the chance to visit this winery. it was quaint. I was really taken with the Devin White wine. It started out very smooth buttery, then hints of vanilla and Pear I think. This wine is definately great for sipping on a hot day. I do not know what year I had. Read More

Sauvignon Blanc is Buttonwood Farms signature wine and the team rests their reputation on this time-honored grape. Buttonwoods first harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon came in 1989, and they immediately recognized the potential of the vineyard to produce grapes that reflect all the best qualities of this varietal.
