“In the wonderful hills of Barolo wine, where the landscape begins to take on a different, more animated guise, there is a family that has always been associated with wine: the BROVIAs. The Winery had been set up as far back as 1863 and is settled in Castiglione Falletto. Paying always attention to the importance of the “terroir”, with time and an uncompromising attitude to the selection of the finest vineyards in Langa, the family has been able to acquire great vineyards in the Barolo growing area: Rocche, Villero and Garblèt Sue’ in Castiglione Falletto and Ca’Mia and Brea in Serralunga d’Alba. Thus, the philosophy of the Winery is to propose great personality Barolos (as with the other wines produced), all made in the same way, but with very specific and clean characteristics, always different among them; Barolos that faithfully reflect the richness of our great Langa vineyards. “ – Description from JelaDragoljevic

  • Brovia Barolo Rocche 1979

    Snoothrank:

At decanting: Absurd amount of dregs, evolved, mineral, soil, dung, and leather on the nose with lurking black cherry and rose petals. Shy on the nose, if a bit on the evolved and savory side of things. In the mouth this is, rich and intense with some prosciutto fat notes and flashes of minerality early on the palate followed by fresh, lean, and... Read More

  • Fratelli Brovia Barolo Rocche 1980

    Snoothrank:

Evolved on the nose and mineral scented with minty, spicy accents. In the mouth there is much the same with an over arching dirty barrel thing going on. By itself this would be fine to drink, though it is drying out and fraying at the edges. In tonights company it shows quite poorly, though most likely within expectations for the vintage. 84pts Read More

  • It has been some four years since I last took a look at 1989 Barolo in any ... ... of note was that the 1989 Brovia Rocche was not surprisingly corked. I think that the Brovia wines of 1989 and 1990, beautiful when there are clean, suffer from abnormally high incidence of cork taint. Given the current pricing I am hesitant to buy them even kno... • Fratelli Brovia Dolcetto d'Alba Ciaböt del Re 2001

    Snoothrank:

Dirty and oxidized on the nose with lots of seedy aromas. Carob, fennel, celery seed aromas. texturally this is clean and precise in the mouth though the wine has no life. Its dark and medicinal and long on the palate with oversteeped, meaty and even bready flavors. At least theres some power. 74pts Read More
