Brandlin Vineyard is located on a Mount Veeder ridgeline, in the southern Mayacamas Range on Napa Valley’s west side. Perched at 900 to 1,150 feet in elevation, the vineyard is divided into 15 discrete blocks facing every point on the compass. This block differentiation leverages the site’s varied aspects in sun exposure, slope and soil composition, each providing distinct fruit characteristics. In addition to the high elevation, the vineyard’s location in the southern section of the Mount Veeder AVA, provides more moderate temperatures than much of the Napa Valley. Fruit ripens slowly, and harvest may take place from late September to early November. Steep slopes of schisty, gravelly loam on shale provide the quick drainage, low yields and drought stress typical of true mountain sites. Grapes develop a high skin to flesh ratio, resulting in richly concentrated wines of great complexity, with firm tannin structure for long-term aging. – Description from markomkc

  • Peter Franus Zinfandel Mt. Veeder Brandlin Vineyard 2008

    Snoothrank:

This is my first Peter Franus wine and was a great experience. The wine won Best Zinfandel of 2008 in Wine and Spirits. Blueberry and lots of Indian spices on the nose. Dark ruby in color. Beautiful textured blueberry fruits thickly coated with a load of spices and smoky tobacco. Spicy McSpicy here. Great finish. Great wine. Read More

  • Brandlin Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Rouge 2006

    Snoothrank:

This powerful wine evolves over three hours to reach a height of complexity and balance. The nose opens to a full array of herbs, flowers, minerals and fruits, surrounding lead notes of charcoal, cocoa bean, pepper, straw and violet. A rich core of herbs dominates the aromatics throughout the journey. The palate launches to a strong herbal he... Read More

  • Brandlin Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Rouge 2007

    Snoothrank:

This is an enormously complex masterpiece that evolves continuously over 24 hours. Ephemeral notes of licorice, plum, flowers (lavender and violet) greet at first sniff. At one hour, although still a bit tight, a variety of aromas and tastes make their appearance fleetingly, sparking interest. At 2 ½ hours, the wine begins to open on the pala... Read More

  • Peter Franus Napa Zin 2007

    Snoothrank:

This is such a great Californian Zinfandel! One of the few I have tasted lately ... Zinfandel grapes from the Brandlin Vineyard in Mount Veeder along with a splash Charbono, Mourvedre and Carignan this warm and inviting Zin shows great complexity. The wine is dark ruby in color with aromas of raspberries, lavender, plum with a touch of clove an... Read More

  • Peter Franus Zinfandel Mt. Veeder Brandlin Vineyard 2005

    Snoothrank:

Peter Franus 2007- Brandlin Vineyard Mount Veeder Zinfandel is an ashtonishing accomplishment and a great value. Big, bold and well structured; it shows aromas of dry raisins, black cherries, lavender and rosemary. It's a full body, silky, glycerin-like textured wine with soft tannins and a very long finish. A bit high in alcohol but very well r... Read More

  • Peter Franus Zinfandel Mt. Veeder Brandlin Vineyard 2005

    Snoothrank:

Dark color in the glass with aromas of black currants, beef broth, cinnamon, and fresh cracked black pepper. The palate shows brambly wild berries, clove and distinct black pepper in the back of the mouth with a firm tannin and acid structure. The finish is very long and enjoyable Read More

  • Peter Franus Zinfandel Mt. Veeder Brandlin Vineyard 2005

    Snoothrank:

Peter Franus consistently makes spicy, full bodied wines. The first thing I smell on this one is cedar followed by black fruit, a bit of coffee. The finish lingers forever with hints of herb. Would be great with grilled flank steak. Great value! Read More
