Boutari

Boutari's Santorini winery opened in 1989 and has been named one of the most beautiful wineries in the world for the past several years. It's architecture is similar to that of the islands highly recognizable dome structure. Boutari has played a significant role in the resurgence and cultivation of the island's viticulture. The winery is located between Faros and Akrotiri, but the vineyards are located in various spots throughout the island. Santorini has a relatively small landscape and the majority of the island is dedicated to tourism - a constant fight for the wineries on the island. Boutari's estate is open for tours and tastings and has a small kitchen for light fare. A small movie theater is also located on the premises that showcases an educational video explaining the history of Santorini's wine culture. Throughout the year, the theater is also open for regular movie viewing - a major draw for many of the island's residents. The vineyard, planted in 1992, cover approximately 6 hectares of Read more »

  • Boutari Assyrtiko Santorini 2012

    Snoothrank:

Tight on the nose with a hint of tar laying under notes of dried peaches and preserved lemons. Very smooth and polished in the mouth, theres good acidity here and fine underlying minerality but this has a richer mouthfeel than most whites from Santorini, a mouthfeel even a Chardonnay lover could be attracted to. The flavors lean towards the mine... Read More

  • Boutari Assyrtiko Santorini Kallisti 2007

    Snoothrank:

Deep and golden in color. This smells predominantly of old wood with fair underlying complexity of dried fruits, dried flowers, spearmint. honey comb and toasted almond. Smooth, with integrated acidity, this does have a lovely texture with flavors that have faded somewhat with time yet remain well balanced and moderately fresh. Theres a touch of... Read More

  • Boutari Santorini White 2011

    Snoothrank:

Dry and a bit stony on the nose this shows a bit of a woody accent and a little hint of the sweetness of oxidation wrapped up in aromas of sweet gum and beeswax. Supple, low and elegant in the mouth, theres a softness here that benefits from the modest richness of this wine. Very easy drinking, if a bit short on the finish, this delivers modest ... Read More

    Snoothrank:

Super floral and fruity with notes of lemon and lime, this is quite muscatty. A bit soft, though nicely broad and easy in the mouth with simple candy citrus flavors that are framed with a faint herbal tint and supported by late arriving acidity. This finishes very quickly. 82pts Read More

  • Boutari Matsa Malagouzia 2011

    Snoothrank:

Made with Organic GrapesRestrained and low key on the nose with gently herbal earthy aromas and notes of dried citrus pith. Succulent acids greet the palate followed by a medium weight wine that shows subtle flavors of citrus, cider apples, quince, and un-ripe peach. • Boutari Naoussa Grande Reserve 2007

    Snoothrank:

A slight bramble berry and cough medicine nose with a creamy, smooth, soft, and mildly tannic entry, this Naoussa is ready for drinking. Some herbal bitters on the finish but well balanced otherwise. A very good wine for the price. Try with lamb souvlaki. 88 points. Read More
