The farm of Boekenhoutskloof wasoriginally granted to Huguenot settlers in1776. For two hundred years it remained in the same family. Over the two centuries they engaged in agricultural activities as diverse as tobacco, fruit, cattle and ultimately wine production. The original owners ceased wine production in the 1940s. The existing partnership re-opened the winery for production in 1996. Lead by Cellarmaster Marc Kent (South African Winemaker of the Year, 2007), the Winery is now regarded as one of SA’s top producers. Boekenhoutskloof is a Syrah specialist, with its premium range selling out on release each vintage. The Chocolate Block, a Syrah based blend, is probably the most successful new offering to come out of SA in the modern era. Boekenhoutskloof is acknowledged by Robert Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide and The 2009 Wine Report as South Africa’s # 1 producer.

Very interesting red. Full-bodied, with lots of bold, contrasting flavors (fruit, oak, earth, roast, tobacco, spice, chocolate). Don't pair this with any subtle dish. Read More

Recommended from my "Wine Expert" at World Market!! It is spicey for sure, but with a slice of really good cheddar, tastes smooth and silky..slightly acidic, but mellows after 15 mins or so..Will buy it again! Great Price Point as well! Read More

For the price, a very nice bottle. Smokey BBQ sauce on the nose and very smooth on the palate. A great Wednesday wine. Works with chorizo, pizza, and a good puttanesca. Read More

  • Boekenhoutskloof Wolftrap 2008

We loved the 2007 but just got the 2008 and it is just gross. We poured out nearly 3/4 of the bottle. I'm not sure if we got a bad batch or if the 2008 is just bad. Again we LOVED the 2007 and we pumped to see the new one at a local store. So gross though. Smelled like porta-potty that some one had been smoking in for 2 days. Read More
