The farm of Boekenhoutskloof wasoriginally granted to Huguenot settlers in1776. For two hundred years it remained in the same family. Over the two centuries they engaged in agricultural activities as diverse as tobacco, fruit, cattle and ultimately wine production. The original owners ceased wine production in the 1940s. The existing partnership re-opened the winery for production in 1996. Lead by Cellarmaster Marc Kent (South African Winemaker of the Year, 2007), the Winery is now regarded as one of SA’s top producers. Boekenhoutskloof is a Syrah specialist, with its premium range selling out on release each vintage. The Chocolate Block, a Syrah based blend, is probably the most successful new offering to come out of SA in the modern era. Boekenhoutskloof is acknowledged by Robert Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide and The 2009 Wine Report as South Africa’s # 1 producer.

  • Wolftrap Syrah Mourvedre Viognier 2011

Spicy and gamey nose, with lots of black fruit and pepper, and a good blend of oak notes. Mild body with soft tannins despite the young age, bolstered by good berry fruit acidity. Well composed, not too complex but hits the right notes, and easy to please. Read More

  • Wolftrap Syrah Mourvedre Viognier 2011

Intense red colour with a purple rim. A spicy profile with ripe black fruit and violets. Smooth and rich on the palate with soft tannins, good density and a hint of oak. A well balanced, unpretentious wine made for easy drinking. Read More

  • Boekenhoutskloof the Wolftrap Rosé 2011

Wonderfully floral and spicy on the nose with tons of red plum, boysenberry and passion fruit aromas, supported by hints of flint and earth. No Gewurz here? Round and smooth in the mouth, this is a let down after the exciting set of aromas. Chunky and a bit dull and heavy on the palate, this is smooth and easy to drink on its own but is just too... • Boekenhoutskloof the Wolftrap Rose 2010

Buttery and chardonnay-like on the nose but transforms into a light more lady-like wine on the palate yet has a powerful edge of smoky about an identity crisis! Read More

  • Boekenhoutskloof the Wolftrap Rose 2010

Smoky, a bit flinty and subtly vegetal on the nose with subdued bitter apple and pithy fruits topped by a touch of white pepper. A bit loose on the palate but nicely transparent with slightly creamy, almond flavors up front that are supported by bright mineral notes. The fruit remains subdued on the palate, if nicely balanced. This is an easy si... Read More

  • Boekenhoutskloof the Wolftrap Rose 2010

Besides, Viognier, this also has Chenin and Grenache Blancs. An unusual blend, and the risk pays off. There's sweet fruit and vanilla on the nose, with some toast and sesame, which I think comes from the Chenin. The flavors round each other out nicely. Would be great with food! Read More
