The farm of Boekenhoutskloof wasoriginally granted to Huguenot settlers in1776. For two hundred years it remained in the same family. Over the two centuries they engaged in agricultural activities as diverse as tobacco, fruit, cattle and ultimately wine production. The original owners ceased wine production in the 1940s. The existing partnership re-opened the winery for production in 1996. Lead by Cellarmaster Marc Kent (South African Winemaker of the Year, 2007), the Winery is now regarded as one of SA’s top producers. Boekenhoutskloof is a Syrah specialist, with its premium range selling out on release each vintage. The Chocolate Block, a Syrah based blend, is probably the most successful new offering to come out of SA in the modern era. Boekenhoutskloof is acknowledged by Robert Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide and The 2009 Wine Report as South Africa’s # 1 producer.

  • Boukenhootskloof Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2013

    Snoothrank:

Bright, effusive even on the nose with sweetly candied violet and sour plum aromas along with gamy hints of leather and a suggestion of ginger and spicy mushroom. A touch low in acid in the mouth, this is a little rough around the edges with fresh tannins adding some textural detail. the flavors are a touch cooked with jammy black cherry notes ... Read More

  • Boekenhoutskloof Wolftrap White 2012

    Snoothrank:

2011 was off the charts. 2012 is forgettable. When I first tasted the 2011 vintage with its superb blend of fruitiness and earthy mourvedre, it immediately became one of my favorites. What a difference a year makes. The 2012 version is sharp, aggressive and unpalatable. Read More

  • Wolftrap Syrah Mourvedre Viognier 2011

    Snoothrank:

Spicy and gamey nose, with lots of black fruit and pepper, and a good blend of oak notes. Mild body with soft tannins despite the young age, bolstered by good berry fruit acidity. Well composed, not too complex but hits the right notes, and easy to please. Read More

  • Wolftrap Syrah Mourvedre Viognier 2011

Intense red colour with a purple rim. A spicy profile with ripe black fruit and violets. Smooth and rich on the palate with soft tannins, good density and a hint of oak. A well balanced, unpretentious wine made for easy drinking. Read More

  • Boekenhoutskloof the Wolftrap Rosé 2011

    Snoothrank:

Wonderfully floral and spicy on the nose with tons of red plum, boysenberry and passion fruit aromas, supported by hints of flint and earth. No Gewurz here? Round and smooth in the mouth, this is a let down after the exciting set of aromas. Chunky and a bit dull and heavy on the palate, this is smooth and easy to drink on its own but is just too...
